RMU Women's Hockey Set for First Road Series at Bemidji State

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – The RMU women's hockey team hits the road for the first time this season, traveling to Bemidji, Minn. to take on Bemidji State in a non-conference series. The opener is slated for Friday, Oct. 3 at 7:00 PM ET, with the series finale on Saturday, Oct. 4 at 4:00 PM ET. Both games will stream live on Big Ten Plus.

FIRST TIME OUT
RMU (2-0-0) opened the 2025-26 campaign with a sweep of Assumption, posting 6-2 and 4-2 victories. Sophomore forward Jessica MacKinnon set the tone in the season's debut, factoring in on half of the Colonials' 10 goals. She tallied one goal and four assists, leads the team in points (5) and plus/minus (+6), and scored one game-winning goal. MacKinnon also dominated the faceoff circle, winning 37 of 45 draws (82.2%), including 22 wins in Saturday's contest – the second-highest single-game total in program history. Her efforts earned her Atlantic Hockey America Forward of the Week honors.

Freshman defenseman Linnea Misner also made a strong first impression, registering a goal and three assists in her debut weekend to collect AHA Rookie of the Week accolades. She tied the program record for points produced in a debut with three.

Several other Colonials chipped in with multi-point efforts against the Greyhounds: Alaina Giampietro – 3 goals, Shayne Desjardins – 1 goal, 2 assists, Morgan Giannone – 1 goal, 2 assists, Taylor Storey – 1 goal, 1 assist, Thalia D'Elia – 2 assists, Rowyn Ringor – 2 assists.

In net, Maggie Hatch picked up the win in the opener with 29 saves (.935), while Lucy Phillips followed with a 19-save performance (.905) in the finale.

ALL-TIME VS. BEMIDJI STATE
Since their first meeting in 2007, RMU and Bemidji State have clashed 15 times, with the Beavers holding a narrow 9-5-1 advantage.

The Colonials got the better of the Beavers in their most recent series last season at Clearview Arena. RMU earned a 2-0 shutout win in game one behind 46 saves from Hatch, then completed the sweep with a 4-3 overtime victory. Thalia D'Elia scored the OT winner, while Giannone (1g, 2a) led the offense, and Desjardins and Calli Arnold each tallied a goal. That weekend, both Hatch and D'Elia were recognized with weekly conference honors.

SCOUTING THE BEAVERS
Bemidji State (0-2-0, 0-2-0 WCHA) began its season with a tough test against top-ranked Wisconsin, falling 9-2 and 5-0 at home. Kate Johnson and Maddie Kaiser have each found the back of the net, while sophomore goaltender Kaitlin Groess started both games and made 61 saves, posting a .847 save percentage.

The Beavers finished 2024-25 with a 6-30-1 overall record (4-24-0 WCHA), bowing out in the WCHA Quarterfinals against Wisconsin. Last year's squad averaged 1.50 goals per game while allowing 4.00 on average.
