NEWARK, Del. – The RMU women's hockey team posted their first shutout win of the season at Delaware, winning 5-0 on Friday night. The Colonials now have a 4-5 overall record to begin their season.
FIRST PERIOD
The Colonials came out very strong, owning the time of possession as their hard work paid off with a goal in the 11th minute by
Catriona Crarer to make it 1-0 RMU.
Six minutes later, RMU struck again on the power play as
Taylor Storey rifled one home to extend the Colonial lead. RMU outshot Delaware 14-3 in the opening frame as the visitors established dominance.
SECOND PERIOD
The Colonials came out strong to start the frame and benefitted with a goal off a wild redirect, starting with the stick of
Kaitlyn Schooley and finishing off the body of
Morgan Giannone.
RMU generated pressure late in the period, firing six shot attempts in the last two minutes, but couldn't find the back of the net.
THIRD PERIOD
The Colonials stayed in control as Jessica Mackinnon tallied her team-leading third point of the game with a goal in the 11th minute.
RMU added insurance just two minutes later as defenseman
Thalia D'Elia notched her first goal of the season. The Colonials would end up cruising to a 5-0 final against their new conference foe.
