YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The RMU women's soccer team saw its 2025 campaign come to a close Wednesday night, falling 2-0 to Youngstown State at Farmers National Bank Field. The Colonials finished the season with a 4-9-4 overall record and a 2-5-3 mark in Horizon League play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Penguins struck early after being awarded a penalty kick just four minutes into the match when RMU was whistled for a foul inside the box. YSU's Camille Bultel converted from the spot, sending her shot to the right side to give the hosts a 1-0 lead.
Youngstown State doubled its advantage in the 30th minute, as forward Sara Felder — one of the conference's top scorers — found the back of the net to make it 2-0.
RMU managed two first-half shots, including one on target, but was unable to cut into the deficit before the break.
The Colonials nearly broke through early in the second half, starting with a dangerous moment in the 48th minute when
Paloma Swankler's curling cross deflected off the woodwork. Seconds later,
Sydney Chontos followed up with a close-range effort that was cleared off the line by a YSU defender.
RMU continued to press, and in the 58th minute,
Ava Trethewey unleashed a shot that hit both the right and left post before bouncing out — the Colonials' second near goal of the night.
Despite several strong spells of possession, RMU couldn't find the breakthrough as Youngstown State held on for the 2-0 victory.
