EASTON, Mass. – RMU overcame a second-quarter Stonehill surge to defeat the Skyhawks 20-17 on Saturday afternoon at W.B. Mason Stadium. This is the Colonials' second straight win as they improve to 3-6 on the season and 2-2 in the NEC, while Stonehill also has the same record after the loss.
The game began with Robert Morris striking first in the First Quarter when
Zach Tanner connected with
Chaz Middleton for a 36-yard touchdown pass at the 11:29 mark, putting RMU up 7-0 after the extra point. The Second Quarter saw Stonehill rally for a 17-point surge. Stonehill tied the game 7-7 early in the quarter with a 17-yard touchdown pass from Jack O'Connell to Cody Ruff. RMU briefly reclaimed the lead, 10-7, with a 44-yard field goal by
Jayson Jenkins at 6:00.
Stonehill then tied the score again, 10-10, with a 24-yard field goal from Domenic Scalese at 3:43. Stonehill took the lead right before halftime with a 2-yard touchdown rush by Aidan Garrett at 1:22, which made the score 17-10 in favor of the Skyhawks heading into the break.
RMU scored the only points in the Third Quarter when Jenkins made a 29-yard field goal at 2:09, narrowing Stonehill's lead to 17-13.
The Colonials secured the win in the Fourth Quarter with the decisive score coming at 9:41, an 18-yard touchdown pass from Tanner to
Richard Ransom. The ensuing extra point gave Robert Morris the final lead, and the game ended with a score of 20-17.
Individually,
Ethan Shine ran for this second straight 100-yard game, finishing with 122 yards on 28 carries. On defense,
Trey Woods recorded a total of eight tackles (4 solo, 4 assisted). He shares the lead with
Eldrick Robinson II, who also recorded 8 total tackles (3 solo, 5 assisted).
The next game is November 8 against Wagner at Joe Walton Stadium. The Seahawks (3-6, 2-2 NEC) defeated Saint Francis 23-20 earlier this afternoon.
