ERIE, Pa. – Robert Morris dropped a 27-13 contest at Mercyhurst on Saturday afternoon.
The Lakers (5-6, 4-2 NEC) took a 6-0 lead into halftime off the foot of kicker
Max Young. The Colonials (3-8, 2-4 NEC) got on the board at the 11:50 mark of the 3
rd quarter on a
Jayson Jenkins 45-yard field goal. RMU tied the contest when Jenkins booted a 23-yard field goal six minutes later. That drive was extended when Jenkins took a fake punt for an 18-yard gain and a 1
st down on 4
th and 2.
However, Mercyhurst answered with a touchdown on its next drive to take a 13-6 advantage with 4:17 left in the 3
rd quarter and extended its lead to 20-6 after Brian Trobel's touchdown as the 3
rd quarter ended. RMU cut the deficit to seven points on
Ethan Shine's 14-yard score with 9:09 left in regulation, but the Lakers answered again on their next drive.
Shine finished the game with 90 yards on 16 rushes.
Mitchell Robinson Jr. led all players with nine tackles.
Patrick McDonnell added eight.
Next week is the regular season finale on November 22 at home against Duquesne. The Dukes (6-5, 4-2 NEC) defeated Central Connecticut State 38-33 earlier today.
