Game Recap: Men's Hockey |

Colonials Fall Short to the Lions

MARYLAND HEIGHTS, Mo. – Despite jumping out to an early two-goal lead, the RMU men's hockey team couldn't hold off Lindenwood's late push, falling 5-3 on Saturday night at Centene Community Ice Center. The loss closes out the non-conference weekend and moves the Colonials to 2-9-1 overall.

FIRST PERIOD
RMU delivered its strongest start of the weekend, striking twice in the opening 10 minutes.

Just two minutes into the game, Braden Rourke capitalized on a counterattack, burying the opening goal off a feed from Gabriel Lunn.

At the midway mark of the frame, RMU made it 2-0 as Jackson Reineke wired in a power-play marker—RMU's first of the night—off quick puck movement from Ryan Taylor and Tanner Klimpke.

Lindenwood, however, countered with a momentum swing of its own, scoring twice in a four-minute span to send the teams into the first intermission locked at 2-2.

SECOND PERIOD
The Lions grabbed their first lead five minutes into the middle frame, converting off sustained pressure.

The period featured a steady parade to the penalty box, with each team receiving three power-play chances. RMU nearly found the equalizer when Reineke rang a shot off the post, narrowly missing his second goal of the night.

Lindenwood dictated the offensive chances in the period, outshooting RMU 15-10.

THIRD PERIOD
RMU responded quickly to open the final period. Just one minute in—and on another power play—Reineke returned the favor, setting up Ryan Taylor in the slot for the tying goal. Cameron Garvey also earned an assist on the play.

With the score even at 3-3, a delayed penalty proved costly as Lindenwood scored with an extra attacker to retake the lead just two minutes later. The Lions added insurance at the midway point of the period and held on for the 5-3 win to secure the sweep.
