GREEN BAY, Wis. –
Nikolaos Chitikoudis' layup with 2.4 seconds left capped a game-ending 15-3 run in Robert Morris' 80-78 victory at Green Bay on Thursday night in the Horizon League opener.
1st HALF
In the first half, Robert Morris (7-3, 1-0 HL) established an early lead and controlled the pace for the first six minutes of the game. RMU's lead peaked when a
Ryan Prather Jr.'s three-pointer made the score 10-5. However, Green Bay (4-6, 0-1 HL) responded with an 8-0 scoring run over the next two and a half minutes, taking their first lead of the game at 13-10. For the remainder of the half, the contest remained tight, never separating by more than two possessions. The scoring for the half was closed out by a putback from
Cam Wilds following a
Josh Hill miss, giving the Colonials a 36-33 lead heading into halftime.
2nd HALF
The second half began with Green Bay making a run, using a 13-2 run to claim a 50-43 lead by the under-16 media timeout. The Phoenix lead reached nine points (55-46) at the 13:27 mark before a
DeSean Goode layup cut the deficit to three points, 61-58, with 8:40 remaining. Green Bay later took an 11-point lead with 3:54 left. RMU narrowed the deficit from 77-70 when
Darius Livingston's three-pointer made it a four-point game with 1:19 left. Wilds' free throws brought RMU within two points, 77-75, with 40.9 seconds to go. On the next possession RMU's defense forced a 10-second violation, which set up a Livingston three-pointer with 19.6 seconds left to put RMU ahead 78-77. Justin Allen made the back end of his free throws to tie the contest at 78-78 with 16 seconds remaining. On the final possession, a driving Livingston found Chitikoudis in the paint for the shot that resulted in the 80-78 final score with 2.4 seconds left.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Goode finished with 18 points on 7-10 shooting and nine rebounds
- Prather, Livingston, and Wilds scored 11, 10, and 10 points, respectively
- Albert Vargas had a career-best four steals
- RMU outrebounded Green Bay 35-24 and 14-4 on the offensive boards
- The Colonials had 13 seconds chance points to the Phoenix's two
- This is the sixth time RMU has scored 80 or more points this season
- Allen finished with a game-high 20 points for Green Bay
