PITTSBURGH, Pa – The
RMU women's lacrosse team opened their 2025 season by defeating Duquesne in non-conference play, 11-10.
The Colonials have now won three straight contests against the Dukes.
1st HALF
There wasn't much scoring to be had on either side to begin the game as both teams combined for just seven shots on goal in the frame. The Dukes got on the board first at the seven-minute mark but a minute later
Amanda Dolis scored the first goal for RMU to tie the game at one.
The second quarter was a much different story with each team scoring five goals in the stanza. RMU was down 3-2 when they would go on a scoring heater with three goals in one minute courtesy of
Vivian LaMange,
Mia Berthoff, and
Samantha Brothers. RMU would hold a 6-3 lead until the Dukes stormed back to score three straight goals to tie it before the break.
2ND HALF
RMU controlled the tempo in this frame and played stout defense to keep the Dukes on their heels. The Colonials opened the quarter with back to back goals from Dolis and
Eliana LaMange. RMU forced five Duquesne turnovers and would hold the Dukes scoreless for 14 out of the 15 minutes in the quarter.
The Colonials would look to add onto their two-goal lead but the Dukes started the scoring in the fourth off a free-position shot. Brothers would score her second goal of the game to make it 10-8 in favor of RMU with nine minutes remaining. However, Duquesne scored two straight goals to tie the game at 10 with four minutes left in the quarter. RMU would break the tie a minute later with Gia Anthony's second goal of the game that would be the game-winner.
FIRST IMPRESSIONS
The Colonials started four freshmen in the lineup to begin the 2025 campaign as
Vivian LaMange,
Madison Prietz,
Mia Berthoff, and Jad Doldo all started their first career games. LaMange had a team-high six points with four assists and two goals while Berthoff had two goals and two caused turnovers. Prietz was a force in the circle as she three draw controls along with a team-high three caused turnovers.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
Gia Anthony,
Amanda Dolis, and
Samantha Brothers each had a team-high two goals along with LaMange and Berthoff against the Dukes. Sophomore
Jenna Evans tallied a team-high five ground balls while
Jenna Irwin and
Olivia Usatch each led the Colonials with four draw controls.
Sydney Riker commanded the net and had a game-high eight saves against Duquesne.
