RMU Closes Regular Season with Loss to Lindenwood, Set for AHA Quarterfinals

Colonials to Face Syracuse in Opening Round

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – Three second-period goals from Lindenwood propelled them to a 6-2 victory over RMU in the Colonials' regular season finale. RMU finishes the season with an 8-23-2 overall record and a 2-16-2 mark in Atlantic Hockey America (AHA) play. The Colonials now turn their focus to the postseason, where they will face No. 3 seed Syracuse in the AHA Quarterfinal Round on Saturday, February 22.
 
FIRST PERIOD
  • Lindenwood struck first after the midway point of the opening period to take a 1-0 lead.
  • RMU responded quickly on the power play as Janelle Evans tapped in her sixth goal of the season, set up by Veronica Bac and Lindsey Smolen.
  • Both teams finished the period with seven shots apiece.
 
SECOND PERIOD
  • The Lions took control in the middle frame, scoring three unanswered goals in the first 10 minutes to jump ahead 4-1.
  • RMU generated offensive chances, including shots off the post from Morgan Giannone and Smolen.
  • Both teams had two power-play opportunities, creating a fast-paced period that saw Lindenwood outshoot RMU 19-17.
 
THIRD PERIOD
  • Lindenwood added two more goals in the final frame, including a shorthanded tally from Morgan Neitzke to extend the lead to 6-1.
  • With just 20 seconds left, the Colonials capitalized on their seventh power play of the night. With all six seniors on the ice and the goalie pulled, Jersey Phillips found the back of the net off assists from fellow seniors Maddy Coene and Madison Primeau.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • RMU outshot Lindenwood 38-35 and controlled the faceoff circle, winning 34 of 61 draws.
  • The Colonials went 2-for-7 on the power play while successfully killing all five of Lindenwood's chances.
  • Phillips led the team with six shots on goal, while Evans won a team-high 15 faceoffs.
  • Captain Allyson Hebert recorded four blocked shots, reaching 200 in her career. She continues to lead the nation with 105 blocked shots this season.
  • Goaltender Maggie Hatch finished the game with 29 saves.
 
UP NEXT
The Colonials enter the AHA Quarterfinal Round as the No. 6 seed and will travel to face No. 3 Syracuse on Saturday, February 22. Game time is to be announced.
