RMU Men’s Lacrosse Defeats Canisius 9-7

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa.  Calum Brennan's goal at 6:24 of the fourth quarter broke a 7-7 tie, and Kean Moon added an insurance goal with 3:48 remaining to secure RMU's 9-7 victory over Canisius on Saturday afternoon at Joe Walton Stadium.
 
1st QUARTER
The opening quarter was low-scoring, with just two total goals. The Golden Griffins' Devin Collins struck first at 11:09, but David Burr responded for RMU with a goal at the 1:20 mark, tying the game at 1-1.
 
2nd QUARTER
Burr's second goal of the contest evened the score before Mike Howe's go-ahead goal gave Canisius a 3-2 lead heading into halftime.
 
3rd QUARTER
RMU stormed out of the break with four consecutive goals. Liam Keane, Luke Prezioso, John Sramac, and Graeme MacLennan all found the back of the net, giving the Colonials a 7-3 advantage with 7:13 remaining in the quarter. Patrick Mitchell cut the deficit for Canisius, making it 7-4 heading into the final frame.
 
4th QUARTER
Gavin Pedone extended RMU's lead to 8-4 just 53 seconds into the fourth quarter, but Canisius responded with three straight goals to tie the game at 7-7 with 7:29 remaining. Brennan delivered the game-winner just 65 seconds later, and Moon's late goal sealed the victory for the Colonials.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Goalkeeper Nate Fechter recorded 13 saves for the second consecutive game.
  • Brennan contributed a goal and two assists while tallying six shots, five of which were on target.
  • Bo Columbus led RMU with seven ground balls.
  • Owen Tapper caused three turnovers, while Nathan Rudd forced two.
  • Burr notched his 17th career multi-goal game and registered a game-high eight shots on goal, along with two caused turnovers.
