Brennan, Burr Lead RMU Men’s Lacrosse Past Hobart 17-7

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa.  Calum Brennan scored a career-high six goals and David Burr recorded a hat trick and set up four more tallies while Nate Fechter made a career-best 23 saves in RMU's 17-7 victory over Hobart on Saturday afternoon at Joe Walton Stadium. With the win, the Colonials (3-2) extends their winning streak to three matches while the Statesmen fall to 2-3 on the season.
 
1st QUARTER
RMU stormed out of the gates with a pair of goals in the first three minutes and 20 seconds. Kean Moon got the Colonials on the board first, followed by a Liam Keene man-up goal. Hobart would tie the score at 2-2 before Elijah Edwards, Brennan and Burr all found the back of the net as RMU took a 5-2 lead at the end of the first quarter.
 
2nd QUARTER
Brennan scored twice, along with Burr and Joel McCormick to give RMU a 9-5 halftime advantage.
 
3rd QUARTER
Brennan opened the third quarter scoring and found the back of the net one other time as did Burr, Ryan Stiefel and Edwards to put RMU ahead 14-6 heading into the final quarter.
 
4th QUARTER
Colin Davis scored his first of the season and McCormick and Brennan each added goals.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Fechter's 23 saves ties the second-most in a single match with Sal Barcia (2x) and John Kennedy and is the most since Barcia set the program record with 26 at Penn State in 2010
  • The last Colonials player to scored at least six goals was Burr last season at St. Bonavanture
  • Edwards picked up a team-best and career-high five ground balls
  • Moon, Graeme MacLennan and Callum Witter added a pair of assists
  • The 17-goal output is the most since RMU scored 18 on Lindenwood in 2023
 
UP NEXT
The Colonials hit the road beginning March 8 at Bellarmine, followed by March 12 at Penn State and the NEC opener at Detroit Mercy on March 15. RMU returns to Joe Walton Stadium on March 22 to host Wagner.
