Colonials Fall in Home Opener Against George Washington

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – RMU women's lacrosse lost in their home opener on Saturday afternoon against George Washington, 9-8.

The Colonials now move to 1-3 on the season while George Washington improves to 4-0 to begin their 2025 campaign.

1st HALF
The Revolutionaries came out as the aggressors on offense as they scored two goals in the first five minutes of play to open an early lead. RMU struggled with turnovers as they had a team-high six giveaways in this frame. The Colonials saw themselves down 5-0 when Taylor Cadeau found the back of the net for her first career goal. That was the only tally of the stanza for RMU as they went to the second down by four.

The second quarter saw a much different offensive output for RMU as the Colonials would put three points on the board. Mia Berthoff and Jenna Irwin scored back-to-back and cut the GW to just two goals. The Revolutionaries put up their only goal of the quarter with one-minute remaining in the frame. RMU would immediately cancel it out as Irwin beat the clock to score with just eight seconds remaining in the first half. The Colonials went to the break trailing 6-4.

2ND HALF
RMU opened the second half the same way thy finished the first as Irwin once again found the back of the net to get her third tally of the game. Attacker Gia Anthony notched her first goal of the game to tie the contest at six with eight minutes to go in the frame. However, GW would go onto score two straight goals to end the frame with an 8-6 advantage.

The Colonials went into the fourth with a chance to come back and win but three minutes into the frame the Revolutionaries capitalized on a man-up opportunity to score their ninth goal. RMU wouldn't get back on the board until five minutes remaining when Berthoff and Anthony both scored within 20 seconds of each other. The Colonials were then down 9-8 with less than five minutes to at least send the game into overtime. However, GW held RMU off the board as the Colonials last chance came with 15 seconds left when Anthony fired a shot that went just wide. The Revolutionaries would go onto win by a score of 9-8.

CONFERENCE LEADERS
Through four games this season there are a couple Colonials who have placed themselves among the top of the MAC leaderboard in offensive categories. Freshman Vivian LaMange currently leads the MAC In assists as she has compiled 10 helpers so far this season. Also, Jenna Irwin is now T-3rd in the conference with 10 goals as she's scored nine goals in the past two games.


INSIDE THE NUMBERS
Irwin led RMU with three points as all of those came from her hat trick against GW. Mia Berthoff and Gia Anthony each had two goals while Vivian LaMange recorded two assists on the day. Rounding out the RMU scoring is senior Taylor Cadeau who tallied her first career goal this afternoon.

The Colonials will stay home and host Mount St. Mary's on Wednesday with a first draw scheduled for 1:00 p.m. The contest can be seen live on ESPN+.
