MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – The RMU women's lacrosse team fell at home in a tightly contested battle against Mount St. Mary's, 13-8.
The Colonials are now 1-4 on the season while Mount St. Mary's improves to 3-1 to begin their 2025 campaign.
1st HALF
The Colonials were the first team to strike as
Eliana LaMange recorded her fourth goal of the season less than two minutes into the game. RMU's lead didn't last long with the Mounties scoring just a minute later on a woman-up opportunity. There wouldn't be anymore scoring until the 2:50 mark when
Samantha Brothers broke the tie on a quick release. The Colonials would end the frame with a one-goal advantage.
The second quarter didn't go as planned for the Colonials as Mount St. Mary's opened the frame with five straight goals as the visitors took a 6-2 lead. However, RMU battled back with
Madison Prietz picking up her first career goal on a free position shot followed by another quick tally from
Jenna Irwin to shrink the Mounties lead. The Colonials closed the half strong as
Jade Doldo found the back of the net for her first career goal with just 12 seconds remaining in the frame. Besides the Mount St. Mary's scoring outburst, RMU only trailed 7-5 heading into the break.
2ND HALF
RMU looked to regroup to open the second half and did just that with a tally right out out of the gate from
Jenna Irwin.
Gia Anthony followed that score with a goal of her own to tie the game at seven just five minutes into the quarter. The Mounties responded with two goals of their own and held that advantage until the two-minute mark in the frame. Irwin continued her strong performance as she closed the quarter with a free-position goal. RMU trailed the Mounties 9-8 heading to the final frame.
The fourth quarter wasn't kind to RMU as the Mounties shutout the Colonials 4-0 in the quarter. Mount St. Mary's controlled the quarter in all facets as they out shot RMU 8-3 and forced four Colonial turnovers. RMU only had one draw control in the quarter compared to the Mounties who had four which helped them control much of their possessions.
