WALTHAM, Mass. – The RMU men's hockey team closed out its weekend series against Bentley with a 6-0 loss on Saturday night. With the defeat, the Colonials drop to 9-17-4 overall and 6-13-3 in Atlantic Hockey America (AHA) play.
FIRST PERIOD
- Bentley opened the scoring just under four minutes into the game, as Arlo Merritt put the Falcons ahead.
- RMU had two power-play opportunities in the period but was unable to capitalize.
- The Falcons outshot the Colonials 10-5, while RMU held a slight edge in faceoffs, 10-9.
SECOND PERIOD
- Special teams proved pivotal in the middle frame, as Bentley converted on both of its power-play chances. Ethan Leyh netted both goals, extending the Falcons' lead to 3-0.
- RMU had two power plays of its own but remained scoreless.
- Nick Bochen added another tally late in the period, giving Bentley a 4-0 advantage heading into the third.
THIRD PERIOD
- Merritt struck again early in the final frame, securing his second goal of the night.
- Bentley capped off the scoring with a goal from Ryan Mansfield, sealing the 6-0 victory.
- The Colonials outshot the Falcons 13-9 in the third period but were unable to find the back of the net.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Bentley held a 31-28 edge in shots on goal and a 32-29 advantage in faceoffs.
- Gabriel Lunn and Adam O'Marra each registered a team-high five shots on goal.
- JR Ashmead and Patrick Johnson recorded two blocked shots apiece.
- Johnson and Trent Wilson each won nine faceoffs, finishing with a 50%-win percentage.
- Goaltender Dylan Meilun made 23 saves, while Dawson Smith played the final four minutes in net, stopping both shots he faced.
UP NEXT
RMU returns to action next weekend for a home-and-home series against Niagara. The Colonials travel to Niagara for the opener on Friday, February 14 at 6:00 PM before returning to Clearview Arena for the series finale on Saturday, February 15 at 7:00 PM.
