RMU Women's Basketball Closes Season with Loss to Green Bay in the Barbasol Horizon League Championship Semifinals

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – RMU women's basketball fell in the Barbasol Horizon League Championship Semifinal against Green Bay, 73-57. The Colonials closed the season with a 15-16 record and 10-10 mark in Horizon League play.

FIRST QUARTER
  • RMU got off to a red-hot start from the field, beginning with Isys Grady, who nailed a three-pointer less than a minute into the game.
  • The Colonials were shooting at a 75 percent clip midway through the frame and held a 15-7 lead over the Phoenix after Raissa Nsabua drilled a mid-range jumper.
  • RMU's defense was stout in this stanza, allowing the Phoenix to shoot just 35 percent from the field, along with five turnovers.
SECOND QUARTER
  • Green Bay adjusted to RMU's style of play and flipped the script in the second quarter by outscoring the Colonials 21-5.
  • The Phoenix went on a 9-0 run over a four-minute span to take a 24-19 lead midway through the frame.
  • The Colonials had only one field goal in the last 3:44, and that came from a Noa Givon three-pointer that gave RMU life. The Colonials would end the frame with an 11-point deficit, trailing 33-22.
THIRD QUARTER
  • RMU switched the momentum in their favor to start the quarter as Isys Grady drilled two jumpers in a row, including a three-pointer that brought the Colonials within six.
  • Not only did Green Bay struggle from the floor, but they also went just 4-10 from the free-throw line in the stanza.
  • A key player for the Colonials in this frame was Mya Murray, who had four points and five rebounds in eight minutes of action. Both teams scored back and forth to end the stanza, with Green Bay closing out the quarter with an eight-point advantage.
 FOURTH QUARTER
  • T The Colonials returned to shooting how they wanted, hitting 50 percent from the field (7-14), while also posting a game-high 12 points in the paint.
  • The Phoenix drove hard to the lane in this frame, which caused RMU to get into serious foul trouble at the five-minute mark.
  • Green Bay went 16-17 from the free-throw line in the frame and defeated the Colonials, 73-57

PROGRAM FIRSTS
Since RMU joined the Horizon League in 2020 they never hosted a quarterfinal game and played in a semifinal matchup, both of which changed after this season. The Colonials started out conference play in the Horizon League this season with a 1-7 record, but after January 16th RMU would go onto have a 10-4 record to close out the season and clinch a fourth seed in the Horizon League Basketball Championships.


INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Isys Grady was a main component for the Colonials in this contest as she had a team-high 13 points along with seven rebounds and two blocks. Mya Murray and Jada Lee each hit double digits with 12 points against the Phoenix while Murray also had a team-high 10 rebounds. As a team, RMU held Green Bay to 39.6 percent shooting from the field which was the second lowest mark the Phoenix have posted in Horizon League play this season.
