Big Second Half Leads RMU Men’s Lacrosse Over Detroit Mercy 19-4 in NEC Opener

DETROIT  – RMU opened its Northeast Conference schedule in style, with a commanding 19-4 victory over Detroit Mercy at Titan Field on Saturday afternoon. The Colonials (4-4, 1-0 NEC) outscored the Titans (1-4, 0-1 NEC) 14-1 in the second half.
 
David Burr led RMU with four goals, while Calum Brennan added three. Both Bobby Reaume and Kean Moon scored twice. Nate Fechter tied his career high with 17 saves, and Bo Columbus won 13-of-19 faceoffs while collecting seven ground balls.
1st QUARTER
The first quarter remained scoreless for the first 13 minutes until Burr broke through with a goal. Detroit Mercy responded with 37 seconds left in the quarter, tying the game at 1-1.
 
2nd QUARTER
Burr scored three times in the first 10 minutes, giving the Colonials a 4-2 lead at the 5:36 mark. Brennan added a goal with one second remaining, extending RMU's advantage to 5-3 at halftime.
 
3rd QUARTER
Reaume and Graeme MacLennan scored just 38 seconds apart to push the lead to 7-3. Reaume added another goal before Moon struck twice in just 31 seconds, increasing RMU's advantage to 10-3. A man-up goal from Nick Pelletier extended the Colonials' lead to 11-3 heading into the final quarter.
 
4th QUARTER
RMU dominated the final frame, outscoring Detroit Mercy 8-0. Brennan opened the scoring at 14:17, followed by goals from Luke Prezioso, Ryan Stiefel, and Brennan's third of the game. Tommy Mullikin added to the tally, while Nolan Barker and Luis Gonzalez each scored man-up goals, and Rowan Hynes capped off the scoring for the Colonials.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Burr finished with five points (four goals, one assist).
  • Stiefel recorded a career-high three assists.
  • Brennan and Nate Ruff each caused two turnovers.
  • The 19 goals were RMU's most in a game since scoring 21 against Bellarmine on April 12, 2023.
