MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – RMU extended its winning streak to four matches with a 17-8 victory over Mercyhurst on Saturday afternoon at Joe Walton Stadium.
Calum Brennan led the way with five goals, while
Kean Moon added four and
Bo Columbus netted two.
Nate Fechter made seven saves for the Colonials (6-4, 3-0 NEC).
Rob Madden and Ryan Mahoney each scored twice for the Lakers (1-8, 0-3 NEC).
1st Quarter
Mercyhurst took an early 2-0 lead in the first five minutes before Brennan and Moon tied the contest with 5:41 remaining.
Ben Eck put RMU ahead 3-2 three minutes later. Moon added two more goals and Brennan another, giving the Colonials a 6-2 lead at the end of the first quarter.
2nd Quarter
Brennan opened the second quarter with a goal, but Mercyhurst responded with two straight to cut the deficit to 7-4. Goals from Moon and
Brendan Cina sent the game into halftime with RMU leading 9-4.
3rd Quarter
The Colonials dominated the third quarter, outscoring Mercyhurst 7-1. Brennan,
John Sramac,
Bobby Reaume, and Columbus all found the net, with Brennan adding a man-up goal.
Liam Keane and Columbus each added another, extending RMU's lead to 16-5.
4th Quarter
Ryan Stiefel scored the lone RMU goal in the fourth quarter.
Inside the Numbers
- Columbus won a career-best 20 faceoffs, tying for the third most in program history.
- As a team, Columbus, Zach Seppi, and Cristian Davis went 26-for-29 on faceoffs, recording the second-highest number of wins with an 89.6% win percentage.
- RMU outshot Mercyhurst 49-31, picked up 49 ground balls to Mercyhurst's 23, and forced 10 turnovers.
- Columbus' 14 ground balls and the team's 49 total tie for the third most in program history.
