NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The RMU softball team dropped both games against Lipscomb at the Music City Classic, falling 16-2 in game one and 8-4 in game two. The Colonials now sit at 4-6 overall.
GAME 1: RMU 2, Lipscomb 16
RMU struck first in the opening inning as
Anna Resnik reached on a fielder's choice, followed by a
Courtney Poulich walk.
Mary Brant then delivered a two-run double down the left field line, giving the Colonials an early 2-0 lead.
Lipscomb responded quickly, plating two runs in the bottom of the first to tie the game. The Bison then exploded for 11 runs in the third inning, taking control with a 13-2 advantage.
Three more runs in the fourth sealed the game, as Lipscomb secured the 16-2 win in five innings.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Lipscomb outhit RMU 14-3.
Kaylyn Hopf,
Mary Brant, and
Jess Matheny each recorded a hit for the Colonials.
Madison DeVault started in the circle, striking out four batters in two innings.
Sammie Borrayo and
Madelyn Coleman each pitched an inning in relief.
GAME 2: RMU 4, Lipscomb 8
The Colonials once again started strong in game two.
Mary Brant launched a solo home run to left-center in the second inning, followed by
Alaina Koutsogiani's second homer of the season over the right field wall to give RMU a 2-0 lead.
Lipscomb answered in the third with two runs to tie the game. RMU reclaimed the lead in the fifth when Brant singled to left field, bringing in Hopf. Moments later, Koutsogiani drove in Poulich with a sacrifice fly, putting the Colonials ahead 4-2.
However, Lipscomb responded in the bottom of the inning with six unanswered runs, flipping the game in their favor. RMU threatened in the seventh as
Anna Resnik doubled, but the Colonials couldn't capitalize, falling 8-4.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Lipscomb narrowly outhit RMU 8-7. Brant and Koutsogiani each had two RBI, while Hopf, Matheny,
Sequoia Dunlap, and
Logan Black all drew walks. The Colonials stranded six runners on base, compared to Lipscomb's four.
Kaitlyn Molitoris started in the circle, tossing 4.1 innings with five strikeouts, while Coleman finished the final 1.2 innings in relief.
