MOON TOWNSHUP, Pa. –
Bo Columbus tied a program record with 18 ground balls and
David Burr recorded eight points as RMU remained perfect in NEC play in its 15-9 victory over VMI on Saturday afternoon.
Burr scored four times,
Ryan Stiefel had a hat trick,
Owen Tapper and
Calum Brennan each scored twice while
Kean Moon,
Ben Eck,
Luke Prezioso and Nick Pelleiter each scored once for the Colonials (8-4, 5-0 NEC).
Luke Rusterucci recorded a hat trick for the Keydets (8-4, 2-3 NEC).
1st Quarter
After VMI opened the scoring, RMU responded with four of the next five goals. Rusterucci's goal made the score 4-3 at the end of the 1
st quarter.
2nd Quarter
RMU scored four straight goals to open the 2
nd quarter and increased its lead to 8-3. They would go into halftime leading 9-5.
3rd Quarter
The Colonials outscored the Keydets 3-1 in the 3
rd quarter to double-up the score at 12-6, heading into the final frame.
4th Quarter
Each team scored three times in the 4
th quarter with Burr, Tapper and Moon finding the back of the net.
Inside the Numbers
- The last time RMU won five straight NEC games was in 2012 when they went a perfect 5-0 in NEC play with wins over Wagner, Sacred Heart, Mount St. Mary's, Quinnipiac and Bryant.
