Big 4th Quarter Leads RMU Women’s Lacrosse Over Detroit Mercy 19-11

DETROIT – RMU scored nine goals in the 4th quarter in its 19-11 victory over Detroit Mercy on Saturday afternoon. The Colonials improve to 5-9 overall and 3-1 in the MAC while the Titans fall to 5-7, 2-2 MAC.
 
Vivian LaMange and Mia Berthoff each scored five times while LaMange set up four more goals. Sydney Riker made a season-high 14 saves.
 
1st HALF
The 1st quarter had had a pair of lead changes and four ties. Berthoff scored RMU's first two goals and Gia Anthony's goal gave RMU a 3-2 lead at 9:51 of the 1st quarter. The Colonials would get two more goals from LaMange and Berthoff to take a 5-4 lead at the end of the 1st. Berthoff recorded the only RMU goal in the 2nd quarter as UDM scored the final two goals of the period to send the match into halftime tied at 6-6.
 
2ND HALF
The teams exchanged goals to start the 3rd quarter before Madison Prietz and Jenna Irwin found the back of the net to put RMU's ahead 9-7 at the 6:07 mark. LaMange would add another tally for the Colonials who would hold a 10-9 advantage heading into the final quarter. The offense exploded to start the 4th quarter with Berthoff, Irwin and LaMange all scoring within the first four minute to extend the lead to 13-9. The Titans got a pair of goals 13 seconds apart to get within two goals at 13-11 with 9:31 remaining, but RMU responded with six straight goals - Taylor Cadeau, LaMange, Samantha Brothers, Irwin and two from Chelsea Coleman - to close out the game.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
RMU outshot UDM 41-34 and picked up 18 ground balls (led by Anabel Kreydt with four). Irwin finished with her 10th multi-goal match which included the game-winner. The 19 goals was a season-high for RMU and the most since they also scored 19 against Eastern Michigan on April 19, 2023.

RMU will come back home on Saturday April 19 when they host Kent State (6-8, 1-2 MAC) at Joe Walton Stadium. First draw is set for noon and can be seen live on ESPN+.
