RMU Women's Lacrosse Closes Regular Season with Trip to Akron

RMU Game Notes 4/27

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – The RMU women's lacrosse team closes out their regular season schedule against Akron Sunday afternoon. First draw is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. and can be seen live on the Akron Digital Network.

RMU LATELY
The Colonials (7-9, 4-1 #MAC) are coming off an impressive win against Mercyhurst on Wednesday afternoon, 17-6. Nine different Colonials scored a goal against the Lakers, which is the most in a game this season. Jenna and Mia Berthoff both led RMU offensively with four goals each while Vivian LaManage had a team-high two assists. Sydney Riker tallied 13 saves for the second straight game as she recorded her third straight win in net.

Through 16 games, Vivian LaMange leads the MAC in assists as she averages 2.13 helpers per game. The Colonials are currently first in the MAC with a 4-1 conference record, with one regular season game remaining.

ALL-TIME VS. AKRON
The Colonials have had much success against the Zips in their history with RMU owning a 7-0 advantage over their conference foe. RMU has found the back of the net consistently in these matchups' by averaging nearly 15 goals per game against Akron. Last season, the two teams faced off in a overtime thriller as the Colonials pulled away with a 10-9 home win. Jenna Irwin scored the game-winning goal in the third overtime period as she also led the team with three goals in that game.

SCOUTING THE ZIPS
Akron (8-7, 3-2 #MAC) is coming off two straight losses against UMBC and Eastern Michigan while holding the second seed currently in the MAC standings. The Zips have a serious home and away split with Akron having a 6-1 record at home and a 2-6 mark on the road this season.

Sophomore attacker Sienna Hinchcliffe is one of the top scorers in the MAC as she averages 3.13 goals per game and has 47 goals total. Hannah Sanders is third in the MAC in goals against average with 10.68 per game this season.

MAC CHAMPIONSHIP SCENARIOS
Following last week's win over Kent State, RMU officially clinched a spot in the 2025 MAC Championships. The Colonials can secure the No. 1 seed and the right to host the tournament with a win on Sunday against Akron. However, a loss introduces a few scenarios:
  • Loss vs. Akron + Central Michigan win = No. 3 seed
  • Loss vs. Akron + Central Michigan loss = No. 1 seed (tiebreakers over Eastern Michigan and head-to-head win over Detroit Mercy)

UP NEXT
The Colonials will learn their opponent and location for the MAC Championships, which begin on Thursday, May 1, and conclude with the championship game on Saturday, May 3.
