RMU Women's Lacrosse Prepares to Face Detroit Mercy in MAC Championship Semifinal

RMU Game Notes 5/1

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – RMU women's lacrosse begins their postseason journey as they take on Detroit Mercy in the MAC Championship Semifinal Round on Thursday afternoon. First draw is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. and can be seen live on ESPN+.

RMU LATELY
The Colonials (7–10, 4–2 MAC) dropped their regular-season finale on the road Sunday afternoon, falling to Akron, 14–12. Despite the loss, RMU secured a share of the MAC regular-season title alongside Eastern Michigan and Akron, with all three teams finishing 4–2 in conference play. Thanks to head-to-head tiebreakers over both the Zips and Eagles, RMU will serve as the host for the upcoming MAC Championships at Joe Walton Stadium on Thursday, May 1, and Saturday, May 3. This marks the second time in program history RMU will host the tournament, the first being in the 2023 postseason.
Through a full 17 game season, Vivian LaMange led the MAC in assists, averaging 2.13 per game. With the regular season now complete, the Colonials enter the postseason as the MAC's top seed.

ALL-TIME VS. DETROIT MERCY
The Colonials have won two straight games against the number four seed in the MAC Championships and most recently defeated the Titans 19-11 just three weeks ago on April 12. In that matchup, the Colonials exploded for 19 goals as freshman Vivian LaMange set a program-record 11-point performance with five goals and six assists in the win. Mia Berthoff also had a standout game, recording a season-high five goals with four of those coming in the first half.
These two teams have faced off in the postseason before, more specifically in last years MAC Championship game with RMU winning the conference title by a score of 14-10.

SCOUTING THE TITANS
Detroit Mercy (6-8, 3-3 #MAC) had a wild finish to their regular season as they had to defeat Central Michigan in the season finale to make the MAC Championships as the four seed. The Titans would defeat the Chippewas 9-7 on Sunday to secure their postseason spot. The Titans have now won two in a row over central Michigan with their last win coming in the semifinal round of last year's MAC Championship where Detroit Mercy won 11-10 to make it to the championship game.

Junior attacker Libby Cuckler is the spark plug for the Titans offense as she leads the team in points (43), goals (26), and assists (17). Meredith Leavell has started all 14 games in net for Detroit Mercy and she owns a 6-8 record and a .456 save percentage.

POSTSEASON SUCCESS
Since joining the MAC in 2021, the Colonials have enjoyed consistent postseason success, reaching the MAC Championship in each of their first four seasons. They captured their first tournament title last year by defeating Detroit Mercy, after falling to Central Michigan in the finals the two previous years. Central Michigan, however, will not compete in this year's championship after finishing fifth. RMU holds a 4–2 record in MAC postseason play, with wins over Detroit Mercy, Youngstown State, and Eastern Michigan.
