SYRACUSE, N.Y. — For the first time since 2019, Robert Morris is going to the NEC title game. The second-seeded Colonials were 13-12 overtime winners over No. 3 seed LIU in the NEC semifinal on Thursday afternoon at Ted Grant Field.
Calum Brennan scored the game-winner - and eighth of the game - just 14 seconds into the extra period off a feed from
Bo Columbus, sealing an instant classic and sending the Colonials (10–5) into the conference title game. The win came despite a valiant effort from LIU (9–5), who took the lead with just 23 seconds remaining in regulation before RMU's
Bobby Reaume got the equalizer under the one-second mark.
The two teams traded punches throughout regulation in a game that featured six ties and five lead changes. LIU jumped ahead early behind a first-quarter hat trick from Mark Regan, who finished with four goals and an assist. Brennan responded with three of his own in the first half, and the teams entered the break deadlocked at 6–6.
Robert Morris briefly pulled away in the third quarter, taking an 8–6 lead after back-to-back goals by Brennan and
Joel McCormick. But the Sharks roared back with goals from Ben McIsaac and Owen Stefanko, leveling the score heading into the fourth at 8-8.
Charlie Hunnewell's second goal gave LIU a 9–8 lead early in the fourth, but Brennan and the Colonials capitalized on a man-up opportunity to even it. Regan answered again on the extra-man for LIU, and Aiden Zuhoski scored a go-ahead goal with just 23 seconds left.
But Reaume stunned LIU with a goal off the right side, tying the game at 11–11 with a less than a second on the clock and sending the game into overtime.
