Colonials Seek Second Straight MAC Championship Title in Matchup Against Akron

RMU Game Notes 5/3

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – The RMU women's lacrosse team looks to claim its second consecutive Mid-American Conference (MAC) Championship as it hosts Akron at Joe Walton Stadium on Saturday afternoon. First draw is scheduled for 1:00 p.m., with the game streaming live on ESPN+.

RMU LATELY
The Colonials (8–10, 4–2 MAC) advanced to the championship game with a 13-9 semifinal victory over Detroit Mercy on Thursday at Joe Walton Stadium. Senior midfielder Jenna Irwin led the way with four goals and two assists, while also recording four draw controls and three ground balls. The RMU defense was particularly strong in the second half, limiting the Titans to just three goals.

ALL-TIME VS. AKRON
RMU holds a 7-1 all-time record against Akron. The lone loss came in this season's regular-season finale, where the Colonials fell 14-12 on the road. In that contest, Mia Berthoff tied her season high with five goals on eight shots on goal, while Eliana LaMange had a season-best three-goal performance on four shots. The game was tied at 12 with nine minutes remaining, but the Zips scored twice in the final eight minutes to secure the win.

At home, the Colonials are a perfect 4-0 against Akron. Their last meeting at Joe Walton Stadium was a thrilling triple-overtime victory, 10-9, with Jenna Irwin netting the game-winning goal.

SCOUTING THE ZIPS
Akron (10-7, 4-2 MAC) is coming off the program's first postseason victory, defeating Eastern Michigan 16-4 on Thursday at Joe Walton Stadium. The Zips had four different players score three goals and notched at least five goals in two quarters. Offensively, they dominated with 25 shots on goal compared to 11 from the Eagles.
Sienna Hinchcliffe leads the Akron offense with 56 goals this season and ranks among the team leaders with 63 draw controls.

WHAT'S AT STAKE
  • RMU is seeking its second straight MAC Tournament title, which would set a program record.
  • With a win, head coach Courtney Grove would become just the third coach in Robert Morris history to win back-to-back conference championships to begin their tenure.
  • The Colonials have reached four consecutive MAC Championship games — the most by any team since the sport was added to the conference in 2021.
  • A victory would secure RMU's third NCAA Tournament appearance in program history (2021, 2024).
