MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – The RMU women's soccer team picked up its first win of the season on Thursday, defeating the University of Southern Indiana (USI), 2-0. With the victory, the Colonials move to 1-1 to begin the 2025 campaign.
FIRST HALF
Just 14 minutes into the match, the Colonials created a prime scoring opportunity. A through ball was played into space for
Taylor Day, who was dragged down just outside the 18-yard box. The foul resulted in a straight red card for USI's Brynn Quick, forcing the Screaming Eagles to play a player down for the rest of the match.
RMU capitalized on the advantage in the 34th minute. Freshman
Bailey Campbell found senior right-back and captain
Jillian Marvin making a run down the right side. Marvin sent in a perfect cross that found a diving
Madison Hurst at the back post, who headed it into the net for her first career goal and a 1-0 RMU lead.
The Colonials continued to pressure, recording three more shots before halftime.
SECOND HALF
The second half began with both sides trading possession and corner kicks. However, in the 55th minute, the Colonials added an insurance goal.
The play started with
Jillian Marvin playing a ball to
Paloma Swankler in space. Swankler used her speed to get down the right side and placed a perfect cross into the box for freshman
Sydney Chontos, who tapped it home for her first career goal and a 2-0 lead.
The physical play continued throughout the final 30 minutes, with both sides receiving yellow cards.
Despite five more shots from USI, the Colonials' defense held firm, securing the 2-0 victory.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
RMU outshot USI 15-14 and had seven shots on target compared to the Screaming Eagles' one. USI earned six corner kicks to the Colonials' two. Centerbacks

Bailey Campbell, all played the full 90 minutes. Senior
Malia Kearns played her first minutes of the season, recording one shot in 25 minutes of play.
FIRST CAREER POINTS
Sophomore
Madison Hurst and freshman
Sydney Chontos both recorded their first career goals in the match. Chontos scored in just her second career start, while Hurst now owns one goal and three assists in her career. Freshman
Bailey Campbell also recorded her first career assist.
FIRST CAREER WIN
In net, junior goalkeeper
Emma Cameron earned her first collegiate win and clean sheet in her second career game, making one save.
MULTI-ASSIST MATCH FOR MARVIN
Senior captain
Jillian Marvin was a pivotal figure on both goals, stepping up to make two impactful plays from her defensive position. This was Marvin's first career multi-point game, and she now owns two goals and five assists in her career.
