MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – Madison Hurst's late game-winning goal lifted the Colonials to a 1-0 victory over the Canisius Golden Griffins. RMU is now 2-1 to begin the 2025 campaign, with a perfect 2-0 record on its season-opening homestand.
FIRST HALF
The first half was a midfield battle with little offensive action from either side. Both teams battled for possession, resulting in few scoring opportunities. The two best chances came from the Colonials, as
Taylor Day and
Ava Trethewey recorded the only two shots on goal of the half.
SECOND HALF
Canisius came out with renewed energy in the second half, recording six shots in the first 20 minutes. Goalkeeper
Emma Cameron was up to the task, making all three saves on target to keep the game scoreless.
RMU then took control for the final 25 minutes.
Bailey Campbell nearly scored with a curling shot that was saved, and
Taylor Day's shot in the 83rd minute was deflected just over the crossbar.
Finally, in the 84th minute, the Colonials found the breakthrough. After a corner kick was cleared by the Canisius defense,
Shauna Gamble crossed the ball back into the box.
Ivy Chaskelson, running down the right wing, then crossed the ball to
Madison Hurst, who headed it into the net for the 1-0 victory.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Canisius had 14 shots compared to the Colonials' eight. Both teams were even with five shots on goal each. RMU earned five corner kicks to the Golden Griffins' three.

BACK-TO-BACK CLEAN SHEETS
After earning her first career win against USI,
Emma Cameron earned her second straight victory and clean sheet today. She made a career-high five saves to shut out Canisius.
BACK-TO-BACK GAME WINNERS
Sophomore
Madison Hurst scored the game-winning goal for the Colonials for the second consecutive game. Both of her goals have been headers, demonstrating her ability to get to the net. She now has two goals and three assists in her career.
FIRST CAREER ASSIST
Freshman
Ivy Chaskelson recorded her first career assist on the game-winning goal. The Wayne, Pa., native has started all three games for RMU, logging 261 minutes.
UP NEXT
After the season-opening three-game homestand, the Colonials will play their first road contest of the season on Sunday, August 31 at Eastern Michigan. The game is set for 1:00 PM and will be streamed live on ESPN+.
