MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – The RMU men's soccer team picked up its first win of the 2025 campaign in dramatic fashion, as a late goal from junior
Kyler Miller secured a 1-0 victory over Mount St. Mary's. With the win, the Colonials move to 1-0-2 on the season, earning a pivotal home victory after two hard-fought road ties.
FIRST HALF
The Colonials started the match with an aggressive offensive mindset, creating a number of early opportunities. Freshman
Royie Rahamim was particularly active, recording three shots in the first ten minutes.
The Colonials continued to control possession and earn corner kicks, with shots from defenders
Victor Thompson and
Miguel Dominguez forcing saves from the Mountaineers' keeper. Despite the Colonials holding a 9-5 shot advantage, the game remained scoreless at halftime.
SECOND HALF
The physical play picked up in the second half, with the Mountaineers receiving two early yellow cards.
The Colonials continued to threaten, as a header from Tayshuan Reid off a corner kick was saved on the goal line by a Mount St. Mary's field player, and a similar chance for
Sullivan Twill was also denied.
Finally, in the 82nd minute, the Colonials' persistence paid off. On a beautiful build-up play, captain
William Dodzi Afawubo found freshman
Riley Cotton at the top of the box. Cotton delivered a one-touch pass into space for a surging
Kyler Miller, who calmly slotted his shot into the back of the net to secure the 1-0 victory.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
RMU's offensive effort was record-setting, as their 21 shots tied the program record for most shots in a game under Head Coach
Jonathan Potter. The Colonials also recorded 10 shots on goal to the Mountaineers' three and a commanding 9-2 advantage in corner kicks. RMU dominated possession for the match, controlling the ball for 59% of the game.
Fabian Overkamp was RMU's lone player to play all 90 minutes of the match.
KYLER MILLER GAME-WINNER
Junior midfielder
Kyler Miller's game-winning goal was the first of his career, capping off a stellar offensive performance. The Greensburg Central Catholic product now has three goals and three assists in 30 career games.
COLONIAL FIRST
Freshman
Riley Cotton made an immediate impact in his collegiate debut, playing 17 minutes and providing the primary assist on Miller's goal for his first career point.
LANE'S LATEST CLEAN SHEET
Junior captain
Josh Lane was solid in net, earning his second shutout of the season and the ninth of his career. Lane, who now has 11 career wins and 77 saves, made three crucial saves to preserve the victory.
