RMU Women's Soccer Ties Green Bay, 2-2

Swankler and Trethewey find the net for the Colonials

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – The RMU women's soccer team opened Sunday's Horizon League match with early momentum, building a two-goal lead before Green Bay stormed back to earn a 2-2 draw at the North Athletic Complex. With the result, the Colonials move to 2-5-2 overall and 0-1-1 in league play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
RMU struck quickly, converting its very first chance of the afternoon. Senior captain Jillian Marvin ripped a shot from distance in the 10th minute that forced the Phoenix keeper into a save, but Paloma Swankler was in the right place to bury the rebound. The goal marked the senior's second of the season and gave the Colonials a 1-0 advantage.

The lead doubled just 12 minutes later when freshman forward Ava Trethewey was fouled inside the penalty area. Stepping to the spot herself, Trethewey calmly converted her second goal of the year to give RMU a 2-0 cushion.

Green Bay, however, responded with a surge in possession and capitalized in the 32nd minute. Off a set piece, Rebecca Stoeckmann connected with a header that cut the Colonial lead in half.

RMU nearly reclaimed the two-goal margin early in the second half when Madison Hurst's shot drifted just wide, but moments later, Green Bay drew even. In the 49th minute, Isabella Brozek slotted home the equalizer to make it 2-2.

From there, both sides traded chances, but neither could find the breakthrough.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
The Colonials held the overall edge in attempts (14-10) and shots on goal (7-3). RMU also matched the Phoenix closely on set pieces, earning six corners compared to seven for the visitors. Three yellow cards were issued in the game, all given to Green Bay.

Senior goalkeeper Emma Cameron recorded one save in the draw. Shauna Gamble, Emerson Johngarlo, and Julia Becerra each played the full 90 minutes, while freshman defender Eily Duffy logged a season-high 28 minutes of action.

CONSISTENCY IS KEY
The day also marked another milestone of consistency for Swankler. With her tally, she has now scored at least two goals in each of her four seasons in Moon Township, bringing her career totals to 12 goals and nine assists.

UP NEXT
The Colonials close out their three-game homestand on Thursday, September 25, when they host Detroit Mercy at 4:00 p.m. at the North Athletic Complex.
