MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – Following a standout opening weekend to the 2025-26 campaign, two members of the RMU women's hockey team have been recognized by the Atlantic Hockey America conference. Sophomore forward
Jessica MacKinnon was named Forward of the Week, while freshman defenseman
Linnea Misner earned Rookie of the Week honors.
MacKinnon made an immediate impact in the sweep of Assumption, factoring in on half of RMU's goals with one goal and four assists. She registered multi-point efforts in both games, including the game-winning goal in the season opener.
Dominant in the faceoff circle, MacKinnon went 37-for-45 (82.2%) on draws across the series, the best percentage in the nation among players with at least 15 attempts. Her 22 faceoff wins in game two rank second in program history, trailing only Brittany Howard's 24 in 2018. MacKinnon's average of 2.50 points per game currently sits tied for fourth in the country.
Misner made her collegiate debut a memorable one, scoring her first career goal while adding two assists in the opener. Her three points tied a program record for most in a first career game, joining Rebecca Vint and Katie Fergus, who accomplished the feat in 2011. She added another assist in the series finale and contributed defensively with four blocked shots across the weekend.
The recognition marks the first career AHA weekly honors for both players.
After beginning the season with a home sweep, the Colonials now turn to their first road test of the year, traveling to Bemidji State for a two-game set. The series opens Friday, October 3, at 7:00 p.m. ET, followed by the finale on Saturday, October 4, at 4:00 p.m. ET.
