MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – The duo of
Ava Leroux and
Eva Levingston led the Colonials to a big home win against Horizon League rival Youngstown State, beating the Penguins 55-40 in Moon Township on Wednesday night.
FIRST QUARTER
- A low-scoring contest to begin the game saw the score 7-5 in favor of YSU at the first called media timeout, with the Colonials cutting the lead down to two following an Aislin Malcolm jumper.
- A 6-0 run by the Colonials, including Malcolm's bucket before the media timeout, put RMU up 9-7 before the Penguins tied the game back up on a Sarah Baker jumper.
- A made free throw by Ava Leroux gave the Colonials a 10-9 lead at the end of the first quarter.
SECOND QUARTER
- Youngstown State went on a 6-0 run to go up 17-13 over the Colonials at the second quarter media timeout.
- A 5-0 run by RMU closed out the second quarter with the Colonials trailing Youngstown State 21-20 at the end of the first half.
- Going into the half, RMU held a big 24-15 advantage on the glass over the Penguins.
THIRD QUARTER
- Youngstown State started the second half with a three-point basket from Erica King to extend the Penguins' lead to four with 9:30 to go in the quarter.
- Back-to-back buckets by Bailey Kuhns put the Colonials up 28-26, forcing the Penguins to take a timeout with the Colonials on a 6-0 run.
- RMU extended the run to 8-0 with Eva Levingston hitting a jumper to put the Colonials up 30-26 with 4:51 to go.
- A buzzer-beater by Youngstown State's Santoro cut the Colonials lead down to six going into the final quarter, with RMU up 38-32.
FOURTH QUARTER
- The Colonials started the final quarter out on a 6-4 run, with a Jada Lee jumper forcing a Penguins timeout at 5:55 with RMU up 44-36.
- A three-point basket by Myriam Traore put the Colonials up by 12, with the score now at 50-38, with 2:31 remaining on the clock.
- With 1:08 left on the clock, Malcolm hit a pair of free throws to put the Colonials up by 15, with their biggest lead of the game, securing the 55-40 win for RMU.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE
Ava Leroux and
Eva Levingston led the offensive charge for the Colonials, with Leroux putting up 12 and Levingston scoring 13. The duo also led the Colonials on the board with Levingston recording a double-double with a team-leading 10 boards, and Leroux setting a new career-high with eight.
Bailey Kuhns and
Aislin Malcolm each chipped in with nine points apiece.
The Colonials' defense locked down the Penguins, allowing only 40 points, the lowest amount in a Horizon League win in school history. RMU held Youngstown State to just a 30% shooting percentage on the night, with the Penguins going 15-for-50 from the floor. Casey Santoro led the Penguins with 19 points.

With the Horizon League win, the Colonials move to 13-6 overall and 6-4 in Horizon League play. RMU will head back on the road for a matchup with Wright State on Sunday afternoon in Dayton, Ohio. Tip-off is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. at the Wright State University Nutter Center and will be streamed live on ESPN+.
