Five Different Goal Scorers Lead RMU to 5-2 Win Over Holy Cross

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – Five different Colonials found the back of the net as the RMU men's hockey team earned a 5-2 victory over Holy Cross in the series opener on Friday night at Clearview Arena. With the win, RMU improved to 6-15-2 overall and 6-8-1 in Atlantic Hockey America (AHA) play.

FIRST PERIOD
Both teams traded chances through the opening 10 minutes before RMU broke through first.

From his own defensive zone, Michael Felsing flipped the puck to center ice, springing George Krotiris, who quickly fed Bruce McDonald on a breakaway. McDonald made a smooth move around the goaltender and tucked the puck home to give the Colonials a 1-0 lead.

Holy Cross responded less than two minutes later with a power-play goal from Matt DeBoer to even the score.

RMU answered right back. On a crisp passing sequence, Tanner Klimpke finished a feed from Cameron Garvey and Jackson Reineke to restore the Colonials' lead.

Just 33 seconds later, RMU struck again. Dominic Elliott sent a saucer pass to McKay Hayes along the left wing, and Hayes found Trent Wilson in open space. Wilson buried a five-hole shot past the netminder to push the advantage to 3-1.

The teams were even in shots through the opening 20 minutes, 11-11.

SECOND PERIOD
The Colonials extended their lead midway through the second period. Elliott threaded a pass behind the Holy Cross defense to Julian Beaumont, who finished on a breakaway for his second goal in as many games, making it 4-1.

Holy Cross earned two power-play opportunities in the period and held a 10-9 edge in shots, but RMU's defense held firm to maintain the three-goal cushion heading into the second intermission.

THIRD PERIOD
RMU added insurance early in the third period with its first power-play goal of the night. Jackson Reineke capped off a quick passing play from Felsing and Garvey to make it 5-1.

The Crusaders pulled one back late during a 4-on-3 power play as Jack Stockfish found the net, but the Colonials closed out the contest to secure the 5-2 victory.
