TROY, N.Y. – The RMU women's hockey team earned its first road victory of the season Friday afternoon, defeating RPI, 2-1. With the win, the Colonials improve to 2-3 overall.
FIRST PERIOD
RPI opened the scoring on its third shot of the game, as Georgia Bailey found the back of the net to give the Engineers an early 1-0 advantage.
RMU had one power-play opportunity in the opening frame but managed just one shot on goal during the advantage. RPI outshot the Colonials, 8-5, in the first period.
SECOND PERIOD
The momentum shifted in RMU's favor during the middle frame, as the Colonials outshot the Engineers, 10-3, and scored twice to take the lead.
RMU evened the score four minutes into the period. From the defensive zone, defenseman
Shayne Desjardins flipped the puck into the neutral zone, where
Jessica MacKinnon collected it.
Alaina Giampietro finished the play, finding the back of the net to make it a 1-1 game.
With five minutes remaining in the period, the Colonials' top line struck again. MacKinnon made a smooth move around an RPI forechecker in her own zone before moving the puck to Giampietro. The captain then maneuvered around a defenseman and fired a shot toward the net.
Greta Brezenski pounced on the rebound, giving RMU its first lead of the afternoon at 2-1.
THIRD PERIOD
Following early penalties on both sides, the Colonials tightened defensively and worked to keep RPI from mounting a comeback.
RMU nearly extended its lead midway through the period, but
Catriona Crarer's shot rang off the post.
RPI pulled its goaltender with just over two minutes remaining, creating a late opportunity to find the equalizer. However,
Maggie Hatch turned aside both shots she faced during the extra-attacker situation to preserve the Colonials' advantage. MacKinnon nearly added an empty-net goal at the other end, but her attempt also struck the post.
RMU held on for the 2-1 victory, securing its first road win of the 2026-27 season.
