RMU Women's Lacrosse Welcomes Canisius for Home Opener

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – The RMU women's lacrosse team is preparing for its home opener this Friday as the Colonials welcome Canisius to Joe Walton Stadium. First draw is scheduled for 4:00 p.m., and the game will be streamed live on ESPN+
 
RMU LATELY
The Colonials (1-0) opened up the season with an 11-10 overtime thriller over George Mason last Friday in Fairfax, Virginia. Against the Patriots, Freshman Julia Foley got the game-winning goal in overtime off an assist from Mia Berthoff to secure the season-opening win for the Colonials.
 
Berthoff led the Colonials offensively, scoring five goals along with one assist for six points on the afternoon. Foley recorded two goals on the night, including the game-winner for the Colonials, while Sophomores Jade Doldo and Madison Prietz recorded a goal each. Freshmen Gabi Puzevic and Lea Otts both recorded a goal in their collegiate debuts to round out the scoring for the Colonials. In goal, Katrina Bottomley recorded five saves on the way to her first collegiate win.
 
RMU AND CANISIUS HISTORY
Friday's matchup between the pair will be the 14th contest dating back to 2007, with the Griffins leading the all-time series 12-1. At home against Canisius, the Colonials are 1-5, securing their lone win back in 2019 in Moon Township, beating the Griffins 11-10. Both teams met last season in Buffalo on March 8, 2025, with the Griffins securing a 15-9 win over the Colonials. Mia Berthoff finished the game with two goals, both coming in the first quarter, along with an assist to close out the contest.
 
SCOUTING CANISIUS
Canisius opened up the 2026 season with a big 23-6 over Detroit Mercy on Tuesday afternoon in Buffalo. Meg Hiltz, Brooke Hippert, and Annie Chimienti all recorded a hat-trick on the afternoon with Hiltz also recording two assists for a team-best five points. In goal, Olivia Licardi and Isabel Gautreaux split time in the net with LIcardi credited with the win after making three saves on four shots in the first half of play. The 23 goals scored by the Griffins were the most in a single game since the 2017 season.
