MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – Robert Morris (1-2) earned a 16-12 victory over Bucknell (2-1) on Friday at Joe Walton Stadium. The Colonials capitalized on their power-play opportunities, netting three goals with the man advantage.
Dylan Anderson anchored the offense with a dominant nine-point performance, tallying four goals and five assists. In the cage,
Nate Fechter was a wall for RMU, recording 20 saves on 52 shots faced.
Luis Gonzalez netted the eventual game-winner and added an assist.
The Bison were led by Michael Meyer, who scored a game-high six goals. Sean Berrigan chipped in with two goals, including one on the power play and one unassisted.
First Quarter
RMU utilized a massive offensive surge to take an early lead, scoring four consecutive goals in a span of just 21 seconds (10:19 to 9:58). The run was fueled by dominance at the faceoff dot, where the Colonials secured four of five draws to create immediate scoring chances. Despite an early strike by Bucknell's Peter Grandolfo at 13:29, RMU's response and Fechter's steady hands in goal kept the Bison at bay. The Colonials held a 6-4 lead after one.
Second Quarter
The Colonials opened the second frame on the man-up, with
Joel McCormick converting an Anderson feed at 14:50. While RMU won every faceoff in the quarter, Bucknell managed to hang around with two goals, including a man-up score from Meyer at 3:59. Despite a perfect 6-for-6 mark on clears, five RMU turnovers allowed the Bison to close the gap to 7-6 by halftime.
Third Quarter
The intensity ramped up in the third as both teams netted three goals. RMU's power play remained lethal, as
Graeme MacLennan and
Nolan Barker both scored on Anderson assists. While Berrigan scored twice for the Bison to keep the game level, Fechter turned away crucial shots at 11:13 and 6:43 to prevent Bucknell from taking the lead. The teams entered the final frame tied at 10-10.
Fourth Quarter
RMU pulled away in the fourth, outscoring Bucknell 6-3 to seal the 16-12 win. Anderson remained the catalyst, providing two goals and two assists in the final 15 minutes. A perfect clearing percentage and a vital faceoff win with 2:13 remaining allowed the Colonials to burn the clock and extend their lead. Despite a late consolation goal from Meyer, RMU's balanced attack and defensive poise secured their first win of the season.
Worth Noting
Anderson's nine points tie the RMU single-match record for the second-most points in a game. Ryan Smith holds the record with 10.
David Burr and Jake Hayes also recorded nine points. This is the top mark for any player in the NEC thus far and is tied for the second-best in the NCAA.
