RMU Men’s Hockey Defeats Niagara in Series Finale

Beaumont, Elliott, Felsing and Klimpke each produce two points

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – Led by five different goal scorers and a strong performance between the pipes, the RMU men's hockey team earned a 5-1 victory over Niagara in the series finale Saturday night. With the win, the Colonials improve to 10-17-3 overall and even their Atlantic Hockey America (AHA) record at 10-10-2.

FIRST PERIOD
After successfully killing off an early penalty, RMU opened the scoring midway through the first period. Rasmus Larsson fired a shot through traffic that found its way to the back of the net, marking his first goal as a Colonial. Julian Beaumont and Michael Felsing each earned assists on the play.

Despite being outshot 11-4 in the opening frame, RMU maintained its 1-0 lead heading into the first intermission.

SECOND PERIOD
The Colonials extended their lead with their first shorthanded goal of the season. Captain Cameron Garvey forced a turnover in the neutral zone, creating a 2-on-1 opportunity. Tanner Klimpke fed the puck back to Garvey, who buried the shot to give RMU a 2-0 advantage.

Just over three minutes later, RMU struck again. Dominic Elliott and Felsing helped move the puck up ice before Beaumont finished the play, beating the Niagara goaltender high glove side to push the lead to 3-0.

Niagara answered before the period ended, as Noah Hackett scored to cut the deficit to 3-1 heading into the final period.

THIRD PERIOD
RMU restored its three-goal cushion early in the third period thanks to an aggressive forecheck. Bruce McDonald forced a turnover behind the net and quickly set up George Krotiris at the doorstep for the finish. Freshman Zeke Nicholson recorded the secondary assist, earning his first collegiate point.

The Colonials continued to pour it on when Dominic Elliott netted his sixth goal of the season off assists from Klimpke and Lunn, extending the lead to 5-1. RMU's defense held firm down the stretch to secure the victory.
