The Colonials generated chances but trailed in shots, 8-5, and on the scoreboard as the opening period came to a close.
SECOND PERIOD
RMU's offense came alive in the middle frame, erupting for three goals to seize control of the game.
The equalizer came on the power play when
Jackson Reineke positioned himself in the slot and redirected a perfectly placed feed from
Tanner Klimpke past the Canisius goaltender.

Later in the period, Klimpke created offense on his own. After being denied on a breakaway attempt, he stayed with the play, collected his rebound, and fired a wrist shot into the net to give RMU its first lead of the night, 2-1. Reineke and
Rasmus Larsson were credited with assists.
With time winding down in the period and RMU back on the power play, Reineke struck again. He buried his second goal of the game with just four seconds remaining, finishing a setup from Klimpke and captain
Cameron Garvey to extend the Colonials' advantage to 3-1.
RMU outshot Canisius 14-10 in the period and converted both of its power play opportunities.
THIRD PERIOD
The Colonials' defense and goaltending took over in the final period, limiting the Golden Griffins to just seven shots while successfully killing off two penalties.
With under three minutes remaining, Canisius pulled its goaltender for an extra attacker.
