MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – The RMU women's lacrosse team (1-1) continues its three-game homestand with a matchup against cross-town rival Duquesne on Wednesday afternoon at Joe Walton Stadium. First draw is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. and will be streamed live on ESPN+.
RMU LATELY
The Colonials come into the matchup with a 1-1 record following an 11-8 loss at home to Canisius last Friday.
Mia Berthoff led RMU's offensive attack, recording a team-high four goals along with two assists and four groundballs for five points on the evening. Thursday's matchup was the second-straight hat trick for Berthoff this season. Other goal scorers for the Colonials included
Gabi Puzevic,
Taylor Cadeau,
Taylor Burkett, and
Lea Otts. In goal,
Katrina Bottomley was tagged with the loss, recording 11 saves and 11 goals in net for RMU.
RMU AND DUQUESNE HISTORY
Coming into Wednesday's matchup, the Colonials are 4-10 against the Dukes, with RMU currently on a four-game win streak. At home against Duquesne, RMU is 2-4 with its last home win coming back on April 16, 2024, when the Colonials defeated Duquesne 14-8.
The pair met most recently last February, with RMU securing an 11-10 victory at Duquesne. In the win, Berthoff recorded two goals and two caused turnovers in her college debut, while
Madison Prietz was a force in the circle, recording three draw controls and a team-high three caused turnovers.
Amanda Dolis and
Samantha Brothers also recorded two goals while
Jenna Evans tallied a team-high five ground balls. In the circle,
Jenna Irwin and
Olivia Usatch each recorded four draw controls.
SCOUTING THE DUKES
Duquesne has had a slow start to the young season, dropping its first two games of the season to Akron and Mount St. Mary's. The Dukes opened up the season with a 17-6 loss at Akron before dropping their home opener against Mount St. Mary's on Saturday, falling 19-13. Offensively, Duquesne is led by Gracin Emerson and Emma Raines. Gracin has recorded a team-high 11 assists and one goal for 12 points on the season, while Emma Raines recorded a team-high six goals through the first two games of the season. Ella Roach has started in goal for the Dukes in both contests, being tagged with both losses. In goal, Roach has recorded 17 saves while allowing 36 goals on 73 shots faced.
