Big Performances from Levingston and Traore Lead RMU to Victory over Detroit Mercy

DETROIT - Big performances from Myriam Traore and Eva Levingston powered the Colonials to their 10th Horizon League victory of the season, with RMU defeating Detroit Mercy 66-55 on Thursday night.
 
FIRST QUARTER
  • The Colonials got off to a hot start in the Motor City, opening the contest with a 10-0 run behind five points from Myriam Traore, three from Jada Lee, and two from Eva Levingston.
  • Detroit Mercy broke through on the scoreboard at 5:09, drawing a foul to go to the line and making one of two from the charity stripe.
  • The Titans offense came alive, going on a 6-0 run to cut the Colonials lead down to just five, with RMU out front 12-7 with 3:08 on the clock.
  • RMU recorded four points from the charity stripe before Detroit Mercy closed out the quarter with a layup to make it 16-9 RMU at the end of the first.
SECOND QUARTER
  • The Colonials started the quarter with a made free throw from Traore and a jumper from Aislin Malcolm before the Titans put together a 4-0 run to make it 19-13.
  • Back-to-back buckets from the Titans cut the Colonials lead down to six, with RMU leading Detroit Mercy 23-17 with 4:23 on the clock.
  • RMU pieced together an 8-0 run to lead the Titans 31-17 before Detroit Mercy went on a run of their own, scoring five unanswered points to make it 31-22 with 1:24 on the clock.
  • Levingston closed out the first quarter scoring with a quick jumper with four seconds left to make it 33-22 going into the half. 
THIRD QUARTER
  • The teams traded baskets to begin the third quarter, with the Colonials up 35-24 with 9:06 left in the third.
  • A 7-0 run by the Colonials extended RMU's lead to 17 points before the Titans ended the run with a made three.
  • Over the last three minutes, the Colonials outscored Detroit Mercy 6-4 with buckets from Noa Givon, Traore, and Levingston. 
FOURTH QUARTER
  • The fourth quarter opened with four quick points from the Titans over the first minute of play, with RMU leading 55-43.
  • The Titans once again put together another 4-0 run behind baskets from Jasmin Edwards and Maya Anderson to once again cut the Colonials lead to just 10 with 6:08 left in the contest.
  • Over the last five minutes of play, the Colonials were able to hold off the Titans, with RMU outscoring Detroit Mercy 9-8 behind six points from Malcolm, two from Traore, and one from Jada Lee to secure the 66-55 win for the Colonials. 
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE
Eva Levingston and Myriam Traore dominated the offense attack for the Colonials, combining for 43 of RMU's 66 points on the night. Traore led all scorers with 22 points to tie her career-high, while Levingston set a new career-high with 21 points, along with 10 rebounds for Levingston's second double-double in a row.
 
Comparing team stats, the Colonials outshot Detroit Mercy, going 23-for-56 from the floor for 41.1% shooting on the night, while the Titans shot 32.8%. The Colonials also dominated the glass with a 47-37 advantage over the Titans.
 
For Detroit Mercy, Makayla Jackson (13) and Jasmine Edwards (11) led the Titans in scoring, while Edwards also pulled down a team-high eight rebounds.

With a 17-10 overall and a 10-8 mark in conference play, the Colonials will conclude their two-game road trip with a matchup with Oakland on Saturday afternoon. Tip-off is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. and will be streamed live on ESPN+
