BUFFALO, N.Y. – The RMU men's hockey team was unable to generate offensive momentum Saturday night, falling 7-0 to Canisius in the series finale. With the loss, the Colonials move to 11-18-3 overall and 11-11-2 in conference play.
FIRST PERIOD
Canisius seized control early, capitalizing on a power-play opportunity just 77 seconds into the contest to open the scoring. The Golden Griffins maintained relentless pressure throughout the frame, adding four more goals to build a commanding 5-0 lead after the opening 20 minutes.
SECOND PERIOD
The Colonials regrouped during the middle stanza, matching Canisius' intensity and settling into a more balanced rhythm. Neither team found the back of the net, and shots were even at 10-10 in the period as RMU tightened up defensively and limited additional chances.
THIRD PERIOD
RMU continued to battle in the final period, outshooting Canisius 10-8, but was unable to break through offensively. Defenseman
Gabriel Lunn appeared to get the Colonials on the board midway through the frame, but after review, there was not enough video evidence to confirm the puck had fully crossed the goal line.
Canisius added two more goals down the stretch to secure the 7-0 victory and earn a split of the weekend series.
