BUFFALO, N.Y. — Robert Morris (3-3) secured an 11-8 victory over Canisius (0-3) in a non-conference matchup on Friday, marking their first road win of the season. The Colonials outshot the Golden Griffins 33-28, with eight different players contributing to the scoreboard.
Calum Brennan scored two goals on six shots, with three on target.
Luke Prezioso matched Brennan with two goals.
Koerner Marechek found the net twice, including the game-winning goal.
First Quarter
The Colonials capitalized on their opportunities to secure a 3-1 advantage at the end of the first quarter. After conceding an early man-up goal by the Golden Griffins' Dane Kinney at 13:10, RMU responded with goals from
Joel McCormick at 10:46 and Prezioso at 6:39.
Tommy Linehan extended the lead with a goal at 1:53.
Second Quarter
The second quarter featured a tight exchange between the Colonials and the Golden Griffins, with each team finding the back of the net once. RMU capitalized on its opportunities with a timely goal by
Ryan Stiefel at the 5:20 mark. However, Canisius responded with a goal from Devin Collins at 2:49. The Colonials maintained a narrow lead at the end of the quarter, with the score 4-3.
Third Quarter
RMU seized control in the third quarter with a crucial three-goal performance, turning a tied game into a 7-5 advantage by the quarter's end. Marechek initiated the scoring with a goal at 14:03. Despite the Golden Griffins' response with a man-up goal, the Colonials answered as
Dylan Anderson found the back of the net at 7:36, on an assist from
Luis Gonzalez. Brennan added another goal just before the buzzer.
Fourth Quarter
Goals from
Rowan Hynes at 10:47, Marechek at 6:32 and Prezioso at 2:10 gave RMU a 10-7 advantage. Canisius would get within two on a Peter Biglin goal 40 seconds later.
Cristian Davis would win the ensuing faceoff before Brennan hit the post with 1:12 left. He was able to grab the ground ball as RMU called a timeout. Once play resumed, Brennan got an empty netter to seal the game.
