MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. —
Ben Eck scored 1:24 into double overtime to lift Robert Morris to an 8-7 victory over High Point on Monday afternoon at Joe Walton Stadium. The Colonials improve to 3-3, while the Panthers fall to 1-3.
Dylan Anderson led the offensive charge for RMU with four goals on six shots, adding an assist. Eck added two goals, and
Calum Brennan rounded out the Colonials' scoring. In goal,
Nate Fechter made seven saves from 33 shots faced.
HPU's Carson Robins recorded a hat trick. In goal, Zack Overend made nine saves on 29 shots faced for the Panthers.
First Quarter
The Colonials took an early 4-1 lead.
Calum Brennan opened the scoring, followed by two goals from Anderson and one from
Liam Blakely. High Point's only goal came from Robins at the 4:26 mark.
Second Quarter
The pace slowed significantly, with the Panthers scoring the only goal of the quarter with 3:50 remaining to cut into the RMU lead.
Third Quarter
HPU tied the game with two goals, including one by Robins. Anderson scored his fourth goal of the game at 3:28 to give the Colonials a 5-4 lead.
Fourth Quarter
The Panthers went ahead 7-6 on Ian Cann's goal with 2:56 left. With only 42 seconds left, Eck scored the equalizer for RMU to tie the game at 7-7 and force overtime.
OT1
Neither team scored in the first overtime period, as both the Colonials and Panthers finished with a pair of shots.
OT2
The Colonials secured the win after
Zach Tucker recovered a High Point turnover. Tucker cleared the ball to
Joel McCormick, who assisted Eck for the winning goal at 2:46. RMU finished with an 8-7 victory.
