GENEVA, N.Y. — For the second straight match, Robert Morris needed extra time to secure a victory. On Saturday afternoon, it was
Joel McCormick who found the back of the net with 2:43 remaining in overtime to give the Colonials an 8-7 win over Hobart.
Dylan Anderson and
Ben Eck led the offense with two goals apiece, while
Nate Fechter anchored the defense with 14 saves.
Cristian Davis won 11 of 16 face-offs, while both Fechter and
Gavin Pedone picked up a team-high six ground balls.
First Quarter
The teams traded blows early, with
Ben Eck and Hobart's
Nolan Barker exchanging goals.
Dylan Anderson scored late in the frame to give RMU a slim 3-2 lead heading into the break.
Second Quarter
The Colonials broke the game open in the second quarter with a dominant four-goal run. Goals from
Calum Brennan, Anderson, Eck, and
Luis Gonzalez allowed RMU to carry a comfortable 7-3 advantage into halftime.
Third Quarter
The momentum shifted in the second half as Hobart's defense tightened. The Statesmen's Cade Dino scored twice in the third quarter to trim the deficit to 7-5.
Fourth Quarter
The drama peaked in the final minutes of regulation. Hobart scored at the 2:29 mark to pull within one, then stunned RMU with an equalizer just 32 seconds before the final whistle to force overtime.
Overtime
McCormick played the hero, scoring the game-winner off a
Graeme MacLennan assist.
