MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – The RMU women's basketball team dropped a heartbreaker to Horizon League leader Green Bay, falling to the Phoenix 61-58 on a buzzer beater on Thursday morning at home.
FIRST QUARTER
- The Colonials opened the contest on a 13-0 run, highlighted by seven points from Bailey Kuhns and six from Myriam Traore.
- Green Bay got its first basket of the game with 3:12 on the clock on a layup from Meghan Schultz to make it 13-2 RMU.
- RMU closed out the first quarter on a 6-0 run to lead 19-2 going into the second quarter.
- Defensively, the Colonials held Green Bay to just 1-for-10 shooting from the floor in the first quarter.
SECOND QUARTER
- Green Bay started off the second quarter on a 4-0 run to make the score 19-6 in favor of RMU with 7:55 to go in the first half.
- The Phoenix closed in on RMU's lead, posting a 7-0 run to cut the Colonials lead down to just five.
- With 1:26 on the clock, Green Bay's Ellie Buzzell knocked down a big three-point basket to tie the game at 28-28 before a layup by Aislin Malcolm gave the Colonials a 30-28 lead going into the half.
THIRD QUARTER
- A quick five points from Malcolm gave the Colonials a 35-28 lead to start the third quarter, with Malcolm hitting a layup and a big three in the corner.
- With 4:33 on the clock, Green Bay's Jenna Guyer hit a three from the top of the key to give the Phoenix a 41-39 lead.
- A pair of made free throws by Traore gave the Colonials a 42-41 lead before Green Bay connected on a free throw of their own to tie it up at 42-42 going into the final quarter.
FOURTH QUARTER
- Despite a three-pointer from the top of the key from Jada Lee to start the quarter, the Phoenix went on a big 9-0 run to lead RMU 51-45 with 7:32 to go.
- Two made free throws by Malcolm brought the Colonials back, tying the contest at 51-51 with 5:05 to go.
- The Colonials put together a 7-0 run to lead Green Bay 58-32 with just over two and a half minutes to go in the contest.
- With just under a minute on the clock, Green Bay's Maddy Skorupski hit a quick jump shot before Kamy Peppler closed out the game with a pair of three-pointers, including a game-winning buzzer beater to give the Phoenix the 61-58 win.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE
The Colonials had three players score in double-digits, with
Bailey Kuhns leading the way with a near double-double of 18 points and a team-leading nine rebounds.
Myriam Traore was the next highest scorer with 16 points, which featured three made three-point baskets. Traore also recorded six rebounds and two blocks.
Aislin Malcolm rounded out the double-digit scorers with 15 points along with six rebounds, two assists, and one steal.
In the contest, the Colonials shot 32.2%, going 19-for-59 from the floor and 31.8% from deep, hitting 7-of-22. Green Bay shot 35% from the field and 40.9% from beyond the arc. The Colonials had 27 second-chance points in the loss. On the glass, RMU held a 45-39 advantage, picking up 17 offensive rebounds and 28 defensive rebounds.
For Green Bay, the Phoenix had three players in double-digits, with Meghan Shultz leading the way with 13 while Maddy Skorupski and Jenna Guyer each had 12.

Following the loss, the Colonials are now 15-8 overall and 8-6 in conference play. RMU will look to bounce back as the Colonials host Milwaukee on Saturday afternoon in the UPMC Events Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. and will be streamed live on ESPN+ for fans at home to stream.
