RMU Drops Decision to Ohio State

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The RMU women's lacrosse team dropped its second game in a row, falling to Ohio State 17-3 on Saturday afternoon. The Colonials are now 2-4 on the season.
 
FIRST HALF
Ohio State's offense attacked first, scoring back-to-back goals before the Colonials answered with a goal of their own at 6:23. Mia Berthoff found the back of the net off a Madison Prietz pass to cut the Buckeyes lead down to just one before Ohio State closed out the quarter with three unanswered goals to go up 5-1.
 
The second quarter offense was all Ohio State, with the Buckeyes scoring five goals to lead 10-1 going into halftime. At the half, the Colonials were held to just four shots with all four coming on goal.
 
SECOND HALF
Ohio State extended its lead to 13 at the end of the third quarter as the Buckeyes scored four goals in the third quarter to make it 14-1 going into the final 15 minutes of play.
 
The fourth quarter of play saw Ohio State score again before Mia Berthoff scored her second goal of the game, this time unassisted, to make it 15-2 with 11:42 on the clock. Another Buckeye goal would extend the lead back to 14 before Berthoff struck again, this time with five minutes on the clock, to record her fourth hat-trick of the season. Neither team would score the remaining five minutes of the contest, giving Ohio State the 17-3 victory.
 
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE
Mia Berthoff was the lone goal-scorer for the Colonials with three on the afternoon. Berthoff recorded five shots with four coming on goal, along with a groundball. Madison Prietz recorded RMU's only assist, which came on Berthoff's first goal of the afternoon. Prietz also grabbed three groundballs while winning three draw controls and causing a turnover.
 
In goal, Katrina Bottomley and Lucy Carney split time, with Bottomley earning the start and the loss for RMU. Bottomley recorded seven saves while allowing 10 goals. Lucy Carney came on in relief, recording four saves while allowing seven goals.
 
On the afternoon, RMU was held to just 10 shots, with seven of them coming on goal. The Colonials were 8-12 on clears and 1-1 on free-position shots. RMU recorded 12 groundballs and won eight draw controls in the effort.
 
For Ohio State, Maddy Paz recorded four goals, while Maddie White, Camryn Callaghan, and Kampbell Stone each recorded a hat trick to lead the Buckeye offense. Jocelyn Torres was credited with the save, allowing only one goal while making four saves in 37 minutes in the net.
 
UP NEXT
RMU (2-4) will return to Moon Township on Saturday afternoon to host Binghamton at Joe Walton Stadium. First draw is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. and will be streamed live on ESPN+.
