RMU Women's Lacrosse Begins Conference Action Against Central Michigan

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – The RMU women's lacrosse team (2-5) will begin Mid-Atlantic Conference play on Saturday afternoon as the Colonials travel to Mount Pleasant, Michigan, to take on Central Michigan (1-6) in their conference opener. First draw is scheduled for noon.
 
RMU LATELY
The Colonials are coming off a 15-9 loss to Binghamton last Saturday at Joe Walton Stadium. In the matchup, seven different Colonials found the back of the net with Gabi Puzevic and Jade Doldo leading the way with two apiece. The other Colonials to score were Samantha Brothers, Mia Berthoff, Taylor Burkett, Lea Otts, and Great Burns. Madison Prietz, Otts, Berthoff, and Brothers all recorded assists on the night, with Prietz also recording a team-high six draw controls and four groundballs, while Brothers recorded four caused turnovers, four groundballs, and two draw controls. In net Katrina Bottomley earned the start and was tagged with the loss, allowing five goals while recording one save. Lucy Carney came on in relief, allowing 10 goals while recording five saves.
 
RMU IN THE MAC
Offensively, coming into the matchup, RMU is ranked sixth in the conference in goals per game (7.29), fifth in points per game (10.57), third in shots percentage (.378), fifth in assists per game (3.29), fifth in shots per game (19.29), and sixth in shots on goal per game (13.14).
 
Mia Berthoff continues to remain in the top five in goals per game, with the sophomore averaging 2.43 per game and recording 17 on the season thus far. Berthoff is also ranked seventh in the conference in points per game, averaging 3.29 and recording 23 on the season.
 
In goal, Lucy Carney is ranked fourth in goals against average (10.71) while teammate Katrina Bottomley is sixth with 12.71 goals allowed per game. Bottomley is also ranked sixth in the conference in saves per game, averaging 6.14, while Carney is 10th with 4.0 saves per game. In save percentage, the duo is ranked fourth and sixth, with Bottomley in fourth with a .413 save percentage while Carney is sixth at an even .400.
 
Other Colonials in the top 10 include Madizon Prietz, being ranked seventh in the conference in ground balls per game, averaging 2.57, and sixth in the conference in draw controls per game with 3.57.
 
RMU AND CENTRAL MICHIGAN HISTORY
Saturday's matchup will be the 12th meeting between the pair dating back to 2016. RMU currently is winning the all-time series 6-5 despite being on a three-game losing streak to the Chippewas. On the road, the Colonials have gone 2-2 while being nearly perfect at home, sporting a 4-1 record. In conference play, the Colonials are 4-3 against the Chippewas.
 
LAST MATCHUP
The pair last met on April 5, 2025, with the Colonials' comeback falling short against Central Michigan, falling 11-10 despite scoring five fourth-quarter goals. Mia Berthoff and Greta Burns scored goals in the contest, with Berthoff recording a hat trick while Burns scored her first collegiate goal.
 
In the loss, Central Michigan outshot RMU 37-23. 18 of the Colonials' 23 shots came on goal, while Central Michigan had 28 on goal. RMU was 25-for-30 on clears and 3-for-4 on free-position shots. The Chippewas had a massive advantage in draw controls, with a 20-5 advantage over the Colonials.
 
SCOUTING CENTRAL MICHIGAN
The Chippewas will host their home opener with a 1-6 record after picking up their first win of the season, beating Butler 13-9 on Sunday afternoon.
 
Against Butler, nine different Chippewas found the back of the net, becoming the most since April 8, 2023, when Central Michigan beat Akron 21-9. Central Michigan was led by senior Kelsey Barratt, who recorded her second career hat trick. The duo of Caye Kalbacher and Mia Bradley led the way with four points each.
 
Through seven games, three different Chippewas lead the way with Bradley, Kalbacher, and Anna Farrar all recording eight goals each to begin the season. Bradley (8) and Kalbacher (7) also lead the team in assists and points, with Bradley recording 16 and Kalbacher with 15.
 
Two different goalies have seen time in the net with Leila Kahler earning all seven starts, while Abby Schroer has come on in relief in four contests. Through seven games, Kahler has posted a 1-5 record, allowed 105 goals, and recorded 52 saves. Schroer has allowed 29 goals while recording 16 in over 90 minutes of action.
