MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – The RMU women's lacrosse team (3-5, 1-0 MAC) will return home to Joe Walton Stadium for its conference home opener versus Youngstown State (0-7, 0-1 MAC) on Thursday afternoon. First draw is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. and will be streamed live on ESPN+.
RMU LATELY
The Colonials got back into the win column, securing an 8-7 double overtime victory over conference opponent Central Michigan on the road Saturday afternoon.
Despite trailing 5-1 after the first period, the Colonials' offense kept chipping away until a goal by
Mia Berthoff, her third of the game, with 1:30 on the clock tied the contest at 7-7, with neither team able to score in the remaining time.
The first overtime quarter was a defensive battle, with each team only allowing just one shot apiece, with RMU's lone shot coming on goal, but couldn't find the back of the net, sending the matchup to double overtime.
Jade Doldo would call the game with 3:41 on the clock as Doldo found the back of the net for her sixth goal of the season off a pass from
Mia Berthoff, to give the Colonials the 8-7 win, ending a three-game losing streak against Central Michigan.
Berthoff led the way with her fifth hat trick of the season, scoring three goals along with two assists.
Lea Otts was second in command, scoring two goals while also recording two caused turnovers. Turnovers were big for the Colonials, with RMU causing 22 turnovers by the Chippewas, led by
Emma Hawks and
Samantha Brothers with four each.
RMU AND YOUNGSTOWN STATE HISTORY
RMU will come into the matchup with a commanding 9-1 all-time record against the Penguins, while currently being on a six-game win streak with their last loss coming back on April 30, 2022, when YSU nudged out the Colonials 19-17 in Moon Township. Through 10 games, the Colonials have put up 168 goals, averaging 16.8 per game against the Penguins.
LAST DRAW
The pair last met on March 29, 2025, with the Colonials securing a 16-12 win over Youngstown State on the road. The Colonials put up an impressive seven goals in the second quarter, which would prove to be the difference maker in the win.
Samantha Brothers tallied a season-best three goals, while
Jade Doldo and
Mia Berthoff each had two goals for RMU.
Madison Prietz finished with a team-high six draw controls and one goal.
SCOUTING YSU
The Penguins have struggled to begin the year, starting the 2026 season 0-7 after dropping their conference opener to UMass 21-3 at Farmers National Bank Field in Youngstown.
Youngstown State is sixth in the conference in goals per game behind RMU. The Penguins are averaging 6.86 per game, led by Claire Baenziger, who is averaging 2.29 per game and has recorded 16 on the season.
Looking at YSU's goalkeepers, Brooke Harper is ranked eighth in the conference in goals against average, sitting at 17.20 per game, while Alyssa Edwards is ninth, with 17.64 goals allowed per game.
