Softball Sweeps IU Indy in Doubleheader Thriller, Walks Off Game Two

Poulich produces three HR's and seven RBIs on the day

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – The RMU softball team delivered a thrilling Friday at the NAC Softball Field, sweeping a doubleheader against IU Indy with an 11-7 victory in game one before staging a remarkable comeback to walk it off in nine innings, 8-7, in game two. The Colonials improve to 21-13 overall and 8-6 in Horizon League play.
 
GAME 1: RMU 11, IU Indy 7
IU Indy jumped out early, scoring two runs in the first and adding another in the second to take a 3-0 lead.
 
RMU responded in the third inning as Kaylyn Hopf and Eloise Facher opened with hits, setting up Courtney Poulich for a three-run home run to give the Colonials the lead. Later in the inning, Alivia Hare added a solo shot to make it 4-3.
 
The Jaguars answered with back-to-back solo homers to reclaim a 5-4 advantage, but RMU continued to respond. With the bases loaded, Poulich ripped a two-run single to score Hopf and Erynn Thompson and put RMU back in front.
 
After IU Indy took the lead 7-6 on wild pitches, RMU broke things open in the sixth. Poulich and Aglaia Rudd reached base before Mary Brant blasted a three-run homer to center field. The Colonials added two more runs in the inning and held IU Indy hitless in the seventh to secure the win.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • RMU outhit IU Indy 14-12 while committing three errors compared to two by the Jaguars.
  • Poulich, Facher and Sequoia Dunlap each recorded three hits in the contest while Poulich and Hopf each scored two runs.
  • Poulich led the offense with five RBIs while Brant added three.
  • The Colonials drew a total of four walks.
  • Defensively, Dunlap posted a team-high four assists from the shortstop position.
  • Madelyn Coleman started and later reentered to earn her fifth win of the season. She pitched 6.2 innings, allowing minimal damage while striking out three batters.
  • Kaitlyn Molitoris recorded one out in relief and struck out one batter.

 
GAME 2: RMU 8, IU Indy 7 (9 Innings)
After two scoreless innings, IU Indy plated single runs in the third and fourth to take a 2-0 lead.
 
RMU got on the board in the fourth when Dunlap delivered an RBI to score Rudd. The Jaguars extended their lead to 6-1 with four runs across the sixth and seventh innings.
 
Facing a five-run deficit in the bottom of the seventh, RMU mounted an incredible rally.
 
Hopf reached to begin the inning before Facher launched a two-run homer. Poulich and Rudd followed with back-to-back solo home runs, marking three straight homers and cutting the deficit to one.
 
After Brant doubled, Hare came through with a clutch RBI single to tie the game and force extra innings.
 
IU Indy regained the lead in the ninth with a run on three consecutive hits, but RMU answered once again. Poulich led off with another solo homer to even the score, Rudd reached on an error, and after advancing into scoring position, Dunlap delivered a walk-off single to complete the comeback.

  • IU Indy held a slight 16-14 edge in hits while committing one error compared to two by RMU.
  • Poulich led the Colonials with three hits in the game while Rudd scored a team-high three runs.
  • Poulich, Dunlap and Facher each recorded two RBIs.

  • Madison Brown started in the circle, pitching 5.1 innings while allowing three earned runs.
  • Coleman entered in relief and earned her second win of the day and sixth of the season. She tossed 3.2 innings, allowing just one earned run while striking out two batters

 
THE STANDOUT SEASON CONTINUES
Courtney Poulich continued her dominant 2026 season with three home runs and seven RBIs on the day. She now has 21 home runs, 63 RBIs and 57 runs scored — all program records that she continues to extend.
 
Her career totals now stand at 43 home runs, 136 RBIs and 121 runs scored.
 
WALK-OFF HEROICS
Sequoia Dunlap added another clutch moment to her résumé. In the 2025 Horizon League Championship game against Purdue Fort Wayne, she delivered a game-tying home run to force extra innings and help RMU secure its first league title.
 
Through 25 games this season, Dunlap has recorded 26 hits, 21 RBIs and 23 runs scored.

RMU will look to complete the series sweep against IU Indy on Saturday at the NAC Softball Field. First pitch is scheduled for 11:00 AM, with the game streaming live on ESPN+.
