Colonials Close Out Non-Conference Schedule Against Mercyhurst

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – The RMU women's lacrosse team will wrap up its non-conference portion of its schedule with a road matchup against Mercyhurst on Wednesday evening at Saxon Stadium in Erie. The contest will stream live on NEC Front Row.
 
RMU LATELY
The Colonials will head north to Erie with a 4-11 overall record and a 2-4 mark in MAC play after dropping a conference matchup to Eastern Michigan on Saturday afternoon. Against the Eagles, RMU fell 13-3, marking the third loss in a row for the Colonials.

In the matchup, three different Colonials scored on the afternoon, with Gabi Puzevic, Taylor Cadeau, and Lea Otts finding the back of the net for RMU all in the first half. The Colonials were held scoreless during the second half, while Eastern Michigan went on a 10-0 run to secure the 13-3 victory. Lucy Carney was tagged with the loss in net, allowing 13 goals while recording eight saves.
 
MADISON MAGIC
On Saturday, sophomore Madison Prietz recorded her 100th career draw control as a Colonial. Prietz, a native of Eldersburg, Maryland, has now recorded 45 on the season, which leads the team. Prietz is also ranked 10th in the conference in draw controls per game, averaging 3.00 per game. As a freshman, Prietz recorded 55 draw controls, ranking second on the Colonials behind Jenna Irwin, who was named the MAC Midfielder of the Year.
 
LOOKING AT THE NUMBERS
  • Offensively, the Colonials are ranked seventh in the MAC for goals per game, averaging 6.53 and nearing 100 on the season. Mia Berthoff continues to lead the Colonials in goals scored, pushing her season total to 26 after posting a hat trick against ACC opponent, Pittsburgh, last Wednesday.
  • Cracking the top 10 in multiple categories in the conference is freshman goalkeeper Lucy Carney. Carney is ranked fifth in goals against average (11.94), fourth in saves per game (8.08), and saves percentage (.447).
RMU AND MERCYHURST HISTORY
The Colonials and the Lakers have matched up just one time before Wednesday's meeting, with RMU securing a commanding 17-6 win last season.
 
LAST DRAW
In the 17-6 win over the Lakers, Mia Berthoff was on fire, scoring a team-high four goals on five shots. Madison Prietz, Samantha Brothers, Jade Doldo, and Greta Burns all contributed one goal apiece. Prietz also shined defensively, leading the team with five ground balls and three caused turnovers.

SCOUTING MERCYHURST
The Lakers are defending Saxon Stadium with a 3-10 overall record and a 1-5 record at home. This season, Mercyhurst has faced off with three common opponents, falling to Kent State 17-9, Duquesne 21-4, and Canisius 22-5.
 
Offensively, the Lakers are ranked seventh in the NEC in goals per game (9.29) and points per game (14.14). Whitley Easton leads Mercyhurst in goals, ranking fourth in the NEC with an average of 3.14 goals per game and 22 on the season. Also, breaking the top-10 in goals per game is Emma Cimino, who is ranked ninth with 2.57 per game and 18 on the season.
 
UP NEXT
Following Mercyhurst, the Colonials will wrap up the regular season at home against Detroit Mercy on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. Following the contest, RMU women's lacrosse will recognize its three seniors, Emma Marchan, Emma Hawks, and Samantha Brothers.
