BRIDGEWATER, N.J. – Robert Morris football standouts Galen Combs and Khalil Hunter earned NEC Player of the Week honors for their performances in the Colonials' 28-7 season-opening victory over Wagner Saturday afternoon.
Galen Combs – NEC Offensive Player of the Week & Prime Performer
Combs, a sophomore wide receiver from Cincinnati, Ohio, earned NEC Offensive Player of the Week and Prime Performer honors after a standout performance against the Seahawks.
Combs powered the RMU offense in the 28-7 NEC road victory, recording a league-leading and career-high three touchdowns to go along with 104 receiving yards. His performance helped lead the Colonials to their first season-opening road victory since 2003.
Combs set the tone early, recovering a blocked punt for his first touchdown of the afternoon. In the second half, he added two more touchdowns, including a 64-yard touchdown reception that extended the Colonials' advantage to 21-7. Combs capped his three-touchdown performance in the fourth quarter, hauling in a 15-yard touchdown with 5:35 remaining to give RMU a 28-7 lead.
He is the first Colonial to garner NEC Offensive Player of the Week distinction on Opening Weekend since two-time All-NEC First Team running back Sam Dorsett did so in 2003.
Khalil Hunter – NEC Defensive Player of the Week & Prime Performer
Hunter, a redshirt senior linebacker from Miami, Florida, was named the NEC Defensive Player of the Week and a Prime Performer after recording a career-high eight tackles against Wagner.
Hunter anchored an impressive RMU defensive performance in the Colonials' 28-7 victory, helping hold the Seahawks to just 97 total yards, six first downs and a 1-of-16 mark on third-down conversions.
Hunter recorded a career-high eight tackles, including three solo stops and five assisted tackles. He also added 1.5 sacks for six yards and 2.5 tackles for loss totaling eight yards. His 1.5 sacks are tied for the NEC lead, highlighting a dominant performance in RMU's season-opening victory.
He is the first Colonial to earn NEC Defensive Player of the Week recognition since Oct. 28, 2024, when Jamar Shegog took home the honor.
