TOWSON, Md. – RMU volleyball battled Towson on Saturday afternoon at SECU Arena, but the Colonials fell to the Tigers, 3-0 (25-17, 25-22, 25-17).
RMU found itself in an early battle with Towson in the opening set before the Tigers pulled away late to take a 25-17 advantage. The Colonials responded in the second frame, hitting .281 with 12 kills and limiting their attack errors to just three, but Towson used a late push to secure a 25-22 victory.
The Colonials continued to fight in the third set, recording a match-best 14 kills, but Towson's offense proved difficult to slow down as the Tigers closed out the match, 25-17.
Lauren Decker led the Colonials offensively with 11 kills while adding 11 digs and a block for 11.5 points. Addyson Butts added eight kills while hitting a team-best .533, while Layla Todd contributed six kills and four digs.
Kenlee Barnard directed the RMU offense with 28 assists and added 10 digs. Anahi Alvarado chipped in six digs, while Keira Hornung recorded a team-best two blocks.
As a team, RMU finished with 34 kills, 40 digs and three service aces. Towson hit .324 for the match and held advantages in kills (44-34) and blocks (9-2).
The Colonials (0-9) return to action next weekend when they host Siena and Maryland Eastern Shore as part of the Natales Sporting Goods Invitational
